Woman refuses to move bags off seat on empty train after being approached by man

A woman's refusal to move her bags has won her wide support online

It's usually considered the height of rudeness to put your bags on the seat whilst commuting on public transport, particularly if somebody wants to sit down.

But one woman's refusal to budge her bags has earned her support online.

The anonymous woman took to Reddit to share a story from her train commute.

Seating herself down at a four seater section with a table, the woman spread her bag out next to her and got comfortable.

It was then when a man approached and asked her to move her luggage so that he could sit down - even though the rest of the coach was relatively sparse, with only five or six other people on board.

Moving to another seat, the woman found that the man was once again needing to sit next to her.

The woman wrote: "Before I could even get my shoes off, the dude was standing in front of me and said, 'move your bag'. I asked why.

"He said that he wanted to sit there. I answered that he had been wanting that certain seat that I vacated for him, so I don't see why he would want to switch seats.

"He scoffed and explained that it was not about the specific seat but about 'entitled people who think their bags deserve a seat'.

"I told him that I moved once for him and wouldn't move again. He made a movement as if he wanted to grab my bag and I raised my voice saying 'Don't you f****** dare!'.

"He started lamenting about entitled people again. I told him 'I moved for you. There are hundreds of free seats on this train, sit somewhere else'."

Reportedly disgruntled about the incident, the man then took a call and began ranting about 'entitled b*****s' - but the poster suspects this was a fake call.

The Reddit poster asked for opinions on the interaction, as she insisted that she would gather up her belongings on a busy train when people needed to sit down.

Other users were firmly in support of her and blasted the other commuter.

One person wrote: "If the train was half-empty, it's not his business what you do. After you moved and he followed you, he escalated the situation and frankly, he behaved like a certified creep.

"The move to grab your bag was a big no-no. Good thing you raised your voice: too often women are inculcated by society to be quiet, to be nice, not to cause a scene."

Another user wrote: "This guy is a creeper and looking to cause trouble with you, a woman. Good for you not putting up with it."

A fellow Reddit user commented: "He would NOT follow a man around like this."

Well, it seems like there's a consensus.

I wonder what Reddit would make of playing music loudly on trains?

(Spoiler: Nobody likes it. Please stop.)
