A woman with ginger hair has tested out the heatwave promotion at Showcase cinemas, where redheads have been offered free entry to films as temperatures in the UK continue to rise. Watch how she got on here:
With temperatures climbing to the high 30s - and possibly early 40s - in some parts of the UK this week, Showcase Cinemas announced it would be dishing out free tickets to redheads on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July so that they could enjoy some much-needed relief from the harsh sun.
“They’ve announced that gingers are getting free entry to their cinemas on Monday and Tuesday,” she said.
“Shall I go?”
In the comments, Ainjiel added: “Redheads have a faulty Gene which damages their skin’s ability to protect from UV rays. MC1R. I personally can’t tan at all the sun damages my skin.”
In a series of follow-up videos, the natural redhead said she was on the way to the cinema with her dad to check it out.
“Well, I’m a firm believer in ‘if you believe, you can achieve’, so let’s find out,” Ainjiel said.
Cutting to a clip of her in the cinema holding a drink and her free ticket, she exclaimed: “It worked!”
Ainjiel said that the free film and air con was a ‘blessing’, having gone for a showing of Elvis yesterday.
The cinema worker told her they’d had many redheads through the door to escape the heat, at which point her dad apparently asked: “Is it just a room full of gingers then?”
The employee replied: “Yes, and tomorrow.”
Ainjiel said a Tuesday screening of the new Minions film was on the cards next, although presumably it’ll be too hot to take part in the ‘Gentleminions’ trend, which requires cinemagoers to don a full suit.
If you’ve got red hair and fancy a free trip to the cinema, all you have to do is head over to your local Showcase today.
Mark Barlow, UK general manager for Showcase Cinemas, said: “While the UK enjoys some much-needed sunny weather, we know how hard some people find the heat.
"That’s why to tackle the heatwave, we’re offering red heads free entry to our cinema screens this Monday and Tuesday, so they’ll be able to enjoy some of the amazing films on offer in the comfort of our air-conditioned cinema screens and ensure they stay protected from the sun."
