12 Brits among hundreds missing after flash floods in Nepal

An avalanche of ice and rock triggered massive flash floods through parts of Nepal, with the Bhotekoshi river flooding at around 9am local time this morning (26 August).

At least eight people have been killed with widespread damage to villages and infrastructure.

And officials said 384 tourists were reported missing as a result of the flash flood in the Rasuwa region.

Nepal's tourism board has now reported that 12 UK citizens are among them. They were in the area with four South African nationals and four Nepalese nationals with the Alpine Eco Trek company, which offers hiking and trekking trips as well as bespoke holidays in the Himalayas.

More than 100 of the 384 missing people are yet to have a nationality confirmed, the tourist board added.
