A six-year-old girl has been rescued by police after it was found she had been locked in a room for her entire life.
Brazilian police found the little girl in a state of neglect and swiftly removed her from her parents’ care.

Believing her to have been heavily neglected, the girl could not talk and used sounds to communicate with child protection counsellors.
They further found that she had not attended an education setting, had not received her infant vaccinations and was found in a state of disarray.

Child protection counsellor Ligia Guerra said, as per the Daily Mail, that the little girl’s hair was 'tangled' and looked ‘as if it had never been washed'.
She was also unaware of the outside world, having been locked in a room for her entire life.

Guerra said: “The girl was very apathetic and dazzled by everything.”
After being taken by police, the girl was admitted to hospital for an examination and health check and then was sent to a children’s home.
Her parents were arrested and charged with the unlawful detention of their child and are currently in custody.
However, according to police chief Renata Zanin, ‘the mother cannot grasp the gravity of the situation’.
Allegedly, when she was questioned about her daughter’s neglect, she 'gave evasive answers' and 'showed no remorse whatsoever'.

65-year-old James Russell Kahl and 41-year-old Carly Kahl were charged when their home in Redstone Township saw their children living in a room described as a 'dungeon'.
According to KDKA News, the kids were kept in a room with no beds, and the area was infested with fleas.
The windows were said to have been boarded up and faeces was smeared on the walls.
Police say the bedroom door locked from the outside with three deadbolts installed and there was no handle inside of the internal facing door.
This means that only those outside of the room could open and close it, leaving the kids locked inside.

Cameras were also installed, with authorities claiming they were hardwired to James Russell Kahl's room.
The horrific living situation was allegedly exposed by one of the family members.
Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele said: "We are very, very happy that a family member was willing to come forward and report this to us.
"We are very happy with our Children and Youth Services, who removed these children, and our Belle Vernon state police, that continued this investigation long after the children were removed to make the arrest that they did today."
