Influencer, 45, dies on operating table after being given general anaesthetic for huge back tattoo

An influencer from Brazil has died at the age of 45 after he underwent general anaesthetic for a full back tattoo.

Car dealership owner Ricardo Godoi reportedly went into cardiac arrest following the procedure at the Dia Revitalite Hospital in Itapema, Santa Catarina, and passed away on the operating table on Monday (20 January).

The married father-of-four told his 227,000 Instagram followers before his appointment: "I’m about to undergo a surgical procedure and will only be back here after 4pm."

According to The Sun, Godoi hired a tattoo studio who said they hired a private hospital with the equipment, staff and drugs for the procedure.

A police investigation has since been launched, the outlet said.

The owner of the tattoo studio said: "What happened was that, at the beginning of the sedation and intubation, he went into cardiac arrest.

"That occurred before they even started tattooing him.

"He was quickly checked and a cardiologist was called in to try to revive him, unfortunately without success."

The content creator was the CEO of Godoi Group, the company which he operated a luxury sports car dealership under.

A tribute appeared on Godoi's Instagram page, which via Google Translate read: "It is with deep regret that we communicate the death of Ricardo Godoi, which occurred today, at 12pm.

"In this moment of pain, we sympathise with family and friends, wishing strength and comfort for go through this irreparable loss.

"Information about the wake and burial will be released soon.

"May the memory of Ricardo Godoi be remembered with affection and respect by all who had the privilege to meet him."

Following his death, the tattoo studio also shared a statement, which read: "Ricardo was going to have a full back tattoo done with us under general anaesthetic, sedation and intubation.

"To do this, we hired a private hospital with all the staff, equipment and anaesthetic drugs necessary for the safety of the procedure.

"We also hired a doctor with a specialism in anaesthesiology and experience in intubation, whose documentation was approved by the hospital.

"Blood tests were requested beforehand, which showed no explicit risk in carrying out the procedure. Ricardo signed the consent form regarding the risk of the procedure."

Another tribute read: "Today we say goodbye to Ricardo Godoi, an incredible person who left his mark on the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

"His joy, generosity and light will remain present in our memories and in every story he helped to build. May he rest in peace."

LADbible Group has contacted the Santa Catarina Police Civil for comment.
