There's been a lot of talk in the past few weeks about America's heroin epidemic and over here in the UK, I'm, like, 'is there, though? Haven't people been doing drugs for ages?'
Of course, that was until I saw this, because I think we can officially call it an epidemic when even the dogs are on heroin. That's not scaremongering, is it?
This is Charlie, a lovely Golden Retriever, who is one of the latest (and definitely the cutest) victims of Denver's drug problems.
Charlie's sad story starts last Tuesday when police began to chase a suspected drug dealer. Knowing that he was likely to get caught, the dealer lashed 17 baggies of heroin over a wall. On the other side of that wall was the exercise yard of a doggy day care centre. The quick acting team at Bark & Play saw the bags and raced to pick them up before any dogs found them. With 14 dogs out there, two of the bags were eaten by two dogs.

Charlie was one of those dogs. She was raced to the vets where she was given drugs to counteract the effects of the heroin and an IV drip.
Her owner Laura told Fox31 Denver: "She was really drugged up, really out of it. But I was really happy she was alive." So am I.

She's cute AF with that little badass bandana around her neck, but if you look into her eyes in that video, there's a sort of haunted look. She's not the same happy-go-lucky retriever she used to be. She's seen things. Or else she's totally fucked.
