You'll probably have already heard about some of the huge salaries the BBC is paying its presenters. The news was revealed earlier today.

A list of 96 BBC employees who earned more than £150,000 in 2016/17 was released, with Radio 2 host Chris Evans topping the table in a salary bracket of £2,200,000 - £2,249,999.

He was followed by Gary Lineker, Graham Norton and Jeremy Vine.

The release of the list has sparked controversy, with critics - including former shadow culture secretary and former Labour leader Harriet Harman - claiming the issue had exposed a 'gender pay gap' at the corporation as women appeared to be paid significantly less than their male counterparts.

The pay gap results in an awkward interaction between BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin and co-host Dan Walker. He made the list of 96, but she did not.

"It's for the licence-fee payer to decide whether or not these 96 people represent value for money," the BBC's Media Editor, Amol Rajan, explained at the end of his segment, before handing over to the presenters in the studio.

"Thank you very much indeed, and that is all going to be published at 11am," Louise told the camera before looking over at her colleague.

"Could be a fun day ahead," Dan joked.

However, Louise looked pissed off and then rolled her eyes before turning away from Dan.

Louise, in contrast, has been a regular anchor on the programme since 2006, where as he only came aboard in 2016.

She hasn't made a comment on the issue, however, Dan claimed in a Tweet that their salary difference comes from the fact that he also presents Football Focus.

Sky News' political correspondent, Beth Rigby, wrote: "BBC exec asks why [Dan Walker] (£200k-£249k) & [Naga] Munchetty (£150k-£199K) on list but [Louise Minchin] isn't when she co-presents 3/4 times a week."

Dan hit back: "We get exactly the same for BBC breakfast. I have another job on Football Focus."

Even if that's true, it's clear that women employed by the broadcaster don't earn as much as men do.
