David Beckham's Hangover Cure Is A Shout And A Half

David Beckham's Hangover Cure Is A Shout And A Half

Decent advice.

We've all got our own ways of sorting ourselves out after a night on the town.

Personally I think the only real cure is the hair of the dog. Everything else is just noise. At the end of the day a fry up, a cup of tea and a cigarette might provide a momentary sense of relief from the physical and existential pain of it all but, ultimately, if you've resigned the next day to one of bitter sobriety, the feeling of lethargy, the paranoia about what you might have done the night before, and the banging headache will only subside after a nap lasting at least two hours.

David Beckham, however, believes otherwise. In a recent interview with GQ magazine, the former England captain revealed what his does the morning after a heavy night.

Beckham told GQ that his hangover cure is to take an Alka Seltzer tablet before bed, and then eat a bacon sandwich as soon as he wakes up.

"My granddad told me to do that," he added.

An Alka Seltzer tablet is basic pain relief for headaches and other minor ailments and if you don't know what a bacon butty is then there's no hope for you.

With that all said I think the best advice I've ever heard about dealing with a hangover is from the late author and notorious pisshead Kingsley Amis, who said: "When that ineffable compound of depression, sadness (these two are not the same), anxiety, self-hatred, sense of failure and fear for the future begins to steal over you, start telling yourself that what you have is a hangover.

"You are not sickening for anything, you have not suffered a minor brain lesion, you are not all that bad at your job, your family and friends are not leagued in a conspiracy of barely maintained silence about what a shit you are, you have not come at last to see life as it really is and there is no use crying over spilt milk."

In other words, what's done is done and you're only going to end up doing it again.
