Call Off The Search As New Banksy Theory Claims Street Artist Is Actually Four People Working Together

Could this be true?

There have been some wild theories about the mysterious street artist who goes by the name of Banksy but none have truly been able to unmask the identity of the individual.

Or could it be individuals? William Kasper claims to have photographed one of four people he believes is working as the graffiti king.

Will took several pictures in 2007 in Bethlehem, when Banksy was hosting an exhibition in the Palestinian city. One is of an artist drawing on the West Bank wall, with the second one looking like the exact same person at a check point.

He's decided to come forward after a woman photographed the same man. The British street artist did move his Santa's Ghetto gallery from London to Palestine in 2007, creating a massive trail of artworks along the West Bank wall.

The public have identified the man in the woman's picture as UK painter James Ame, who's also known as AM72.

But William believes Ame is in a group with three people who are all a part of the Banksy name.

William said: "I never believed Banksy was one person. The body of work over the last 10 years is too large for one person to accomplish.

"This proves the group use different artist names as a cover and all collective members are hiding in plain view. Whoever came up with that idea is a genius."

Woah, woah, woah, Will, this doesn't PROVE your theory but it is discernibly stronger than some others being put out there.

Dave Stuart, founder and guide of Shoreditch Street Art Tours, has told LADbible it's tough to work out whether Banksy is a team of people.

He said: "It is very likely that close friends help him execute his street art but probably the ideas and concepts are propelled mainly by one person. Let's just agree we should believe that Banksy is one person, we mustn't spoil the romance of the myth.

"Banksy has been enormously important and influential for close to two decades. Many artists have adopted his style of art and even his subject matter. None of them really match his wit nor his political nous, nor his flair for PR."

How many Banksy artworks are out there? Well, Dave believes there are 'just the right number to have been put up by one energetic, creative anti-authoritarian vandal in a long career of bringing art out of the gallery to the masses'.

But if you're still desperate for some other theories then I'll give you the best of the best. One was being put forward by journalist Craig Williams, who says he has pretty damning evidence that Banksy is in fact Robert Del Naja, frontman of Massive Attack.

Williams says there is a distinct correlation between where the electronic music band played and where Banksy works popped up. Robert was reportedly a graffiti artist back in the 1980s and has previously claimed to be a friend of Banksy. Craig Williams found that more than 12 murals appeared either before or after Massive Attack gigs in the cities they were in over the past 12 years.

But Rob says the rumours are greatly exaggerated. Surely he wouldn't give up his secret identity that easily?

What about the guy apparently 'caught in the act' in Melbourne? A woman posted a video to YouTube where she confronts a man she spotted in a laneway. She races after the man, who turns and tries to hide his face with his hand and shouts, 'fuck off, fuck off', before running off.

Apparently, the woman said the graffiti was an image of anti-immigration politician Pauline Hanson stood next to what she thinks is Banksy's signature.

Eh, I'm not buying that theory.

Social media was ablaze when a picture was posted of four men preparing Banksy's Siren of the Lambs artwork in 2013. The men were arranging stuffed animals on a truck outside a warehouse in Brooklyn. Everyone began thinking one of these four could be the elusive artist.

But the one theory I'm willing to let run rampant was a recent discovery in Israel. Not a bad start considering Banksy recently opened a hotel in Bethlehem called the Walled Off Hotel.

A woman filmed a man and he is seen wearing a white trilby, blue hoody and army print trousers while working on a piece with stencils in his hand.

A witness at the also revealed further clues that it could be Banksy. He said: "The mall opens at 10am, but if you need to be there earlier you have to sign your name.

"What was really weird was that when I came in and I had to sign my name, I noticed an English name and said to the security guard, 'who is that?'.

"He said it was an artist from England."

At the end of the day, I would prefer if Banksy was never unmasked and his/her/their identity stayed a secret forever. In this age of instant information, a bit of mystery is always interesting.
