Chris Kamara Is Leaving Sky Sports And Soccer Saturday After 24 Years

Chris Kamara Is Leaving Sky Sports And Soccer Saturday After 24 Years

Kammy will no longer be on our TV screens as he steps down from Sky Sports and Soccer Saturday

Chris Kamara has confirmed he will be leaving Sky Sports and his presenting role on Soccer Saturday at the end of the season after 24 years in the job.

Known as 'Kammy', he was responsible for many memorable moments and the entertaining double act he developed with presenter Jeff Stelling.

After this season ends sports fans will no longer get to hear him say 'Unbelievable Jeff!' at yet another incredible footballing moment.

Speaking about the news, Kamara said: "My long career at Sky Sports has never felt like work. I've spent 24 terrific years at Sky, and leave with the best of memories."

Tibutes to Kamara have been pouring in from colleagues who had the pleasure of working with him over his 24 years in broadcasting.

Sky Sports has also spoken out following the announcement, releasing a statement which read: "After 24 brilliant years at Sky Sports, including many years as a star of Soccer Saturday, Chris Kamara is leaving the show at the end of the season.

"The Soccer Saturday show paid tribute to him this afternoon, and he leaves with our thanks and very best wishes."

Sky Sports director of football Gary Hughes also paid tribute to the former footballer turned presenter.

He said: "Kammy has been a Sky Sports star. Everyone has a favourite Kammy anecdote or highlight, and the tribute we paid to him on air this afternoon really shows the special place he has in the hearts of our viewers.

"We've been so lucky to have him, and he will always be part of the Sky Sports football family."

Prior to joining Sky Sports, the presenter enjoyed a 20-year career on the pitch turning out for clubs such as Portsmouth, Swindon Town, Brentford, Stoke City and Leeds United.

He also spent some time as a football manager where he got Bradford City promoted out of the second division via the play-offs.

Some of his best moments on camera include failing to spot a red card for Anthony Vanden Borre, describing Tottenham Hotspur as 'fighting like beavers' and the time his monitor broke leaving him unsure who'd scored a goal in a clash between Fulham and Middlesbrough.

Kamara's long-time fellow presenter Jeff Stelling had also been due to leave Soccer Saturday at the end of the season but the Mirror reports he later u-turned on the decision after members of the public urged him to stay on.

While it's great that we'll still have Stelling on our screens, Soccer Saturday just won't be the same without Kammy.
