Britain's most dangerous prisoner received chilling threat from Charles Bronson after throwing his gift in the trash

Robert Maudsley and Charles Bronson both inhabited the same prison, but the pair - according to Bronson - hate each other

Robert Maudsley - a man who has been dubbed ‘Britain’s most dangerous prisoner’ – managed to make an enemy of an equally famous inmate with a penchant for violence, Charles Bronson.

That's not a good position to be in, given what he did to this guy in the boxing ring.

Charles Bronson is probably more famous than Robert Maudsley, but Maudsley is arguably the more dangerous prisoner spending his days in HMP Wakefield.

Maudsley killed four people, including one psychiatric hospital patient and two fellow prisoners, before spending decades in solitary confinement – the longest time any British prisoner has currently spent there.

Meanwhile, Charles Bronson has famously never killed anyone at all, but ended up in prison after an armed robbery and then setting himself up for a lengthy stay thanks to a number of behind-bars offences including hostage-taking and violent incidents.

Now, Bronson wants to get himself out of prison and claims he is no threat to the public anymore, whereas Maudsley’s own nephew recently told a Channel 5 documentary that his uncle would likely kill again if allowed to mingle with the general prison population or the public.

Robert Maudsley will likely never be released.

However, there was a time when both were incarcerated in solitary confinement at the same prison, and Bronson – ever the networker – tried to set up a friendship with his fellow lag.

Maudsley wasn’t so keen to be pals though, and rejected a gift that was sent across the cells to him by Bronson, ordering a prison guard to throw it into the bin.

Bronson tried to send him a watch, which isn’t a great gift for a prisoner stuck in a cell for 23 hours of the day with very little hope of release, but Maudsley wasn’t impressed with his gesture.

Afterwards, Bronson called him ‘an ungrateful b***ard’ and now claims that the two men hate each other.

Bronson – who now goes by Charles Salvador after his artistic idol Salvador Dali – once said in an interview with The Independent: “I pray to one day bump into him at 300mph and, unlike him, I don't need a blade.

“Nobody rips my heart out or eats my brain - especially a f**king nutcase like Bob Maudsley.”

It’s worth pointing out here that Maudsley has occasionally been nicknamed ‘Hannibal the Cannibal’ or ‘Brain Eater’ by the press on account of rumours that he ate the brain of one of his victims.

However, he always maintained he did not do that, and the Press Complaints Commission has also upheld that.

Whilst Maudsley is likely to spend the rest of his days in prison, there is a chance that Bronson will manage to get out before he dies.

Bronson hopes that he will be released next year.

In recent times, he won the right to have a parole hearing in public – the first time such a request has been granted – and had hoped to be out by Christmas, although the date of his parole hearing has since been bumped back until at least 2023, much to his disappointment.

As for Maudsley, he’s even asked to be allowed to kill himself in prison in the past, but is now said to enjoy his confinement, according to his nephew.

This means that it’s seriously unlikely that the pair will ever actually get into the same room, let alone settle their alleged beef.

That’s probably for the best, to be fair.
