Porn director explains how he 'accidentally' got his job 18 years ago

He told LADbible there's more to his job than just telling ‘people to have sex and just keep going’

Working in pornography seems like a bit of a niche to get into – it might not necessarily be part of the ads flooding your LinkedIn.

And yet an adult film director has explained that he ‘accidentally’ ended up in his role.

The rather aptly named Dick Bush has been ‘telling people what to do’ on set for 18 years now, having opened up about what he gets up to and how he thinks it’s not all that different to what regular movie and TV directors do.

The Brit spoke to LADbible Stories about his experience in the industry and just what it’s really like to work on the set of a porn film.

As well as explaining what part of a shoot can occasionally get ‘really weird’, he revealed the ‘accidental’ way he got to be there in the first place in the YouTube video.

“I was 25 years old,” Bush began, “I had just graduated from the London Film School and a colleague of mine said: ‘Hey, do you wanna come for an interview for an assistant editor job at this porn production place?’ – where he was working.”

At first, the bloke was a bit taken aback by this suggestion as he responded: “What porn? Why should I work at a porn place?”

But his peer encouraged him to come along anyway while warning him: “You won’t get the job, but it’ll be good to have an interview.”

Ah, we all love a supportive pal, don’t we?

Except when Bush did go along, he revealed: “And I accidentally got the job.”

The director continued: “I thought I’d end up working there for a couple of years.

“And within a couple of weeks I was filming, and then a couple of months I was directing.

“And 18 years has gone by and I’m still in the industry somehow.”

When it comes to what Bush actually does in his role as a porn director, he says it’s a ‘little bit more’ than the common conception that he just tells ‘people to have sex and just keep going’.

“We make a lot of parodies, a lot of storylines,” he explains. “So there is some actual filmmaking going on.”

And when it does come to the sex - because let’s face it, that’s a pretty key part - Bush will occasionally tell performers: “Could you just move your leg? Could you just open up a little bit?”

Bush explained that: “You don’t want people just sort of sh*gging too far close in.”

“That’s basically what I do,” the porn director added.
