Doctor reveals what really happens when you quit sugar for two weeks following jaw-dropping simulation

The doctor shared his take on the changes to your body

A doctor has revealed what really happens when you quit sugar.

This follows a jaw-dropping simulation showing the changes that can take place in the body.

It doesn’t exactly take a genius to say that having too much of the sweet stuff is bad for you, but it also often seems impossible to escape. And yet, plenty of people find a way around it with ‘no sugar’ diets, often doing the rounds as a viral trend on social media.

Importantly though, it’s worth noting the different sugars, with ‘free sugars’ being the one most adults and kids in the UK eat too much of. This is the sugar typically added to food and drinks.

And Dr Eric Berg has taken to TikTok to share what would happen if you quit the sugar.

While you might initially find yourself craving sugar, the doctor says you’ll eventually ‘be able to go longer without food.’

“You're going to have a lot more energy, because now you're body's tapping into your fat reserves to produce its energy,” he says.

And just as you may first experience some mood swings due to reduced dopamine release, Dr Berg reckons you’re going to start feeling ‘more up’ if you ‘were depressed or had anxiety’ beforehand.

The side effects of feeling irritable, tired, headache-y or nauseous may also be aided by gradually cutting the sugar out rather than going cold turkey.

As the simulation from GrowFit Health on YouTube says: “[These symptoms are] because your body is detoxifying and adjusting and these symptoms will pass.”

That also means once you’re over the hump, Dr Berg reckons your focus will improve.

“You're going to think better, and have more focus and concentration,” he says.

The doc also says that you're going to have some physical improvements.

“You’re going to notice that throughout your body, there’s going to be a lot less inflammation and pain,” he says.

Plus: “You’re going to notice that your skin is just a lot better. It will have that healthy glow.”

Experts widely agree that too much sugar can be bad for your skin and is often a contributor to the development of acne and spots.

If you’re thinking about making dietary changes like cutting out free sugars, it’s important to seek legitimate medical health advice.

If you do plan to cut out the sugar, it might be better to take it slowly and have lower amounts before going cold turkey. It's also important that you ensure you're still getting enough nutrients in your diet.
