Bizarre goat dog optical illusion resurfaces and people baffled

Can you figure out what creature this is?

No matter how many times you might have seen an optical illusion, sometimes it can just be impossible to wrap your head around it.

It's been eight years since the blue and black/white and gold dress fiasco, and, I'll be honest, I still don't know what colour it really is. Don't @ me.

So it's understandable that another optical illusion which previously took the internet by storm has come back to haunt us once again - and I say 'haunt' because it's a pretty creepy illusion.

The dog-goat illusion has truly stumped people.

The image shows an animal sprawled out on a bed, and if you were to just look at its body you'd probably be pretty confident that it was a little white dog.

It's when you see its head that things get more bizarre. Are we still looking at a dog? Is it some kind of tiny goat? Is it the devil himself?

The image has been doing the rounds for some time, but gained attention again recently after being shared on the Reddit thread r/HolUp.

The creature is described in the post as a 'goat, dog, pig, Chupacabra looking animal', with the creator admitting they were looking at it for 'way too long' before they managed to figure out what it actually was. But can you do the same?

Reddit users were quick to share their theories, with one bringing an entirely new animal into the mix as they wrote: "I looked and was like wtf, read the caption, glanced again, and smirked thinking 'omg haha I see it, it’s a photoshop of a horse's head onto a dog ha ha'."

Another chose to put a very unpleasant image in everyone's head with their answer, writing: "Looks like a horse and guinea pig mated."

One Reddit user wasn't going to be fooled, though, confidently responding: "I know a DogGoatPig when I see one."

The image has certainly sparked a lot of conversation, but if you just want to get to the bottom of it, allow me to explain.

Maybe this will help you get to the bottom of things.

No matter what combination of animals this creature might look like, I can confirm it is a dog. Those little guys love to get in weird positions, and this one is no different.

The thing towards the right of the image, which you're probably mistaking for a mouth, is actually an ear that's been folded inside out. The eye is actually a sly side-eye, and the thing at the top is the dog's snout.

Reddit users explain further: "People coming to the comments: It’s a dog looking upwards, with its ear folded back (making it look somewhat like a mouth)."

"The thing that looks like the goat's ear, with a black tip, is the dog's nose. The pig's nose with a ring through it is actually the dog's ear."

See it now? If so, enjoy it while it lasts, because I can guarantee it will be back to confuse you again in a couple of years time.
