Since the dawn of man, many questions have tested the human brain. However, few have worried your typical insecure-lad more than 'how long should I last in bed?'
Berty Big Bollocks down the pub with his muscles and impeccable hair will make out that a solid 40 minute session is the minimum you should be aiming for. Your girlfriend may say that your measly 1.30 slow pump action is more than enough. Go you!
But what does science say? Well it's not as long as you may think.
Dr Brendan Zietsch, a psychologist from the University of Queensland, discussed how long it takes most men to ejaculate in The Conversation - from a scientific point of view.
"I know there's a lot more to sex than putting the penis into the vagina and ejaculating, but the rest is not always easy to define (kissing? rubbing? grinding?). To keep things simple and specific, we'll just focus on the time to ejaculation," he wrote.
In order to get answers he recounted a study where couples had to use a stopwatch to measure the time it took the penis to reach ejaculation after entering the vagina. I can't imagine that would affect intercourse in anyway, it's not as if it'd be off putting - something Dr Zietsch agrees with.
"You may note this could affect the mood somewhat, and might perhaps not exactly reflect the natural flow of things. But science is rarely perfect, and this is the best we've got," he wrote.
The study found that ejaculation times varied from 33 seconds (I'd hate to be that guy) up to 44 minutes (would like to be that guy).
The average time was actually 5.4 minutes. So if you feel slightly disappointed after five minutes in the sack, there's no need to be - you're just as mediocre as the majority of us.
