People have to vote whether they want it to happen.

Australia has a beautiful and diverse population with different shapes, sizes, backgrounds and ethnicities.

All are welcome in the Land Down Under and there are groups, events and communities that help promote their causes.

Every now and then, people who all fall into the same category come together and celebrate their similarities, enjoy a bevy and laugh until the sun comes up.

Well, organisers want to create that type of experience for people with red hair in Australia.

Wotif's Festival of Wot? initiative is looking to create a bespoke festival for redheads in Maryborough, Queensland...if enough people want it to happen.

The redhead festival is going head-to-head (excuse the pun) with a Mango Festival in Bowen, Queensland, a Sausage Festival in Mudgee, New South Wales and a Wheat, Wool & Wine Festival in Clare Valley, South Australia.

Wotif wants people to vote for what they want to see come to fruition and they'll put on the event.

Don't get us wrong, a sauso fest in the country where everyone can enjoy the fun of sausages sounds like fun, but a gathering of redheads sounds much more enjoyable for people.

Maryborough was chosen because it 'is known for its higher-than-average ratio of people with red locks, making it the ideal place to celebrate Australia's beloved redheads with their very own festival'.

Wotif released a statement saying: "Of course, any great festival is more than just a name, and a host of quirky events are sure to take centre stage.

"Some unique ideas already proposed include a 'Sausage Dog Parade' at the Festival of Snags, a 'Wig station' at the Festival of Redheads, 'Mango Shotput' at the Festival of Mangoes and a 'Make-Your-Own' wine station at the Festival of Wheat, Wool & Wine.

"We can't wait to see which festival Australia gets behind and we're looking forward to working with the winning town to create an experience that locals will love and is worth travelling for."

This event could be amazing, but it'll need your support to get behind in order for it to become a reality.
