Heartbreaking update as man cut in half by forklift admits he wants to start a family

He made the admission during a rare interview

The man who was cut in half in a forklift accident has issued a heartbreaking update as he admitted he wants to start a family.

Back in September 2019, Loren Schauers was just 18 years old when he was involved in a horrific event while working as a labourer.

The American lad was driving a forklift across a bridge in Great Falls, Montana, when it veered off-course and he was sent plummeting 50 feet to the ground.

As a result, he ended up having hemicorporectomy surgery - everything below his waist amputated - in order to save his life after his pelvis was completely crushed.

And since then, Loren has documented much of his recovery and life alongside his wife, Sabia Reiche, to their growing base of followers.

Previously, the now 24-year-old expressed his wishes to start a family with his partner as they had hopes to adopt or use a donor to have kids.

However, Loren has now admitted to the Daily Mail that he unfortunately doesn’t really believe it is possible anymore for them, despite their desire.

“We would like to have a family of our own but given how much of a problem my care has been, I don't really see it in the cards for us,” he explained.

“Unless we really buckle down, start saving and planning for a future with kids, having a caregiver in place of Sabia for my care and then taking care of kids.”

Sabia, who Loren married in 2021, is his primary caregiver for him full-time and the pair have previously spoken out about not particularly getting ‘out much’ but ‘doing great together’.

And he added to the Mail: “With all the extracurricular activities that come with raising children, it really wouldn't be fair of us to bring a child or adopt a child in life and saddle them with a lifestyle like ours, just not conducive for raising children in my opinion.”

During a previous video on their YouTube page, Sabia was asked: “Is your situation now anything like you expected after the accident?”

She answered: “Yes and no, I saw us still being together and settled down but I don't think I necessarily I guess had a vision for the future.

“It's just always kind of been in the now since the accident happened so like when it happened I knew I wasn't going anywhere and then we went through the processes of the hospital and rehab.”

She continued: “I don't know I guess since the accident happened I haven't really thought farther ahead than a day at a time so I hoped we'd still be together but I didn't really have any visions for the future.”

Loren then followed up by agreeing with his wife completely, saying that that's 'exactly how it's been' over the past few years.
