A clip has been unearthed of Captain Tom Moore's appearance on 70s comedy game show Blankety Blank:

The inspirational 100-year-old, who has today (30 April) raised more than £30 million for the NHS amid the coronavirus pandemic, was once a contestant on the popular BBC show.

During his appearance, Captain Moore got some laughs from the audience when he said he was from Tipps End - pointing out it was a 'good place'.

The gameshow's host, Terry Wogan, asked: "Tom, do you have family or anybody you'd rather not be watching this?" To which Captain Moore replied that his daughters, Hannah and Lucy, were reaching the ages of 16 and 14.

This prompted Wogan to joke: "Too old for this rubbish," before he gave Tom the famous Blankety Blank cheque book and pen.

On this morning's BBC Breakfast, Captain Tom was reunited with the cheque book that he won and said: "That's a long time since [I've seen it]."

Then actor Ruth Madoc made an appearance after she was one of the celebrity guests on the show on the same day.

Sending him a birthday message, Ruth said: "We met on Blankety Blank many years go. Well, haven't you don well. It's wonderful what you've done.

"Many congratulations to you on your 100th birthday! No wonder you saved the notepad and pen from it because it was very special."

The centenarian captured the hearts of the nation when he pledged to walk 100 lengths of his garden to raise funds for NHS Charities Together, because he wanted to give something back - and he's certainly done that.

Donations have flooded in and over 1.4 million people have chipped in since he set himself the challenge.

Alongside his incredible fundraising efforts, Captain Moore has also hit number one in the official UK charts - making him the oldest artist ever to do so - and he's been given a very well deserved Pride of Britain Award.

Earlier today the RAF marked his special birthday with a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast of a Spitfire and a Hurricane.

He has also been made an Honorary Colonel of the Army Foundation College, Harrogate, in recognition of all he's done.

Captain Tom Moore was issued with The Yorkshire Regiment Medal and appointed Honorary Colonel at his home in Marston Moretaine.

General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith, Chief of the General Staff (CGS) made the appointment, which has been approved by The Queen.

He said: "On behalf of the Army, I'd like to wish Captain Tom Moore a very happy 100th birthday and congratulate him on his heroic achievement."

He went on: "His mature wisdom, no-nonsense attitude and humour in adversity make him an inspirational role model to generations young and old, so I am delighted that he has accepted the Honorary Colonelcy of the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, where our 16- and 17-year-olds are trained and educated to be the future leaders of the Army.

"Colonel Tom, congratulations on your richly deserved promotion which is applauded across all ranks of the British Army, many happy returns!"
