Mum Says It's 'Manky' To Stay In Pyjamas On Christmas Day

Whether your family has their Christmas Day attire planned out ahead of schedule - sparkles, bow ties and all - or they opt to chuck some comfy clothes on with their slippers, isn't the most important thing just doing what the hell you want?

Well, not according to one person who has taken to Mumsnet in a bid to slate anyone who chooses the latter option of staying in their pyjamas - calling those that do 'manky'. Charming, eh?

Opening the conversation, the woman wrote: "To think it's a bit manky to spend Xmas Day in your pyjamas or PJs/jammies as people call them on here.

"Are these the new PJs from the Christmas Eve box that you've slept in all night or do you shower and put a fresh pair on?

"It's not exactly a John Lewis tableau is it? Parents and children tucking into their turkey/nut roast in their manky nightwear. Have a shower and get dressed you lazy beggars!"

Naturally, when any online debate of this sort begins, what follows can only be described as utter carnage. Why do people get so p**sed off with others' opinions when they don't mirror their own?

Little do they know they're going to have to go and put their festive outfit on.

One riled user responded: "My manky DC [dear/darling children] stay in their pyjamas every Christmas Day if we are not going out. They love it, little filthy beasts what they are."

Another added: "Personally I like to lounge in pyjamas until after brunch, and then get dressed. Best of both worlds? I have a taffeta miniskirt with elastic waistband for Christmas dinner!" Now, there's someone who knows what they're doing.

A third commented: "As a kid I used to get dressed up. As an adult, since I've stayed in my home home I don't really bother. I tend to stay in pj's most of the day (the ones I slept in) and probably around midday, after being up since 6 I'll chuck a tracksuit or something on. Like to be comfortable to lounge around."

On the other side of the coin, someone who likes to put the effort in wrote: "Each to their own but I wouldn't. I get dressed up, do make up and hair then I'm ready to hit the kitchen, cooking my turkey in a party dress! Quite strange now I think about it really but I like to look nice on Christmas day."

One person made a rather good point: "Nigella Lawson does Christmas prep until the meal in her jammies. Good enough for her. Wear what you like. For as long as you like on Christmas Day."
