Cycling can be a great way to spend your time but there's one rather large downside - it leaves you prone to getting hurt. Now footage has captured one poor guy enduring every cyclist's worst nightmares - going over the top of his handlebars while racing over a stream.
The cyclist was speeding down a hill in the city of La Victoria, Venezuela when he approached a rocky stream at the bottom, coming towards it at full pelt.

It looks like the sort of obstacle the cyclist should clear with ease, but instead he hits what seems to be a pothole underwater, sending him sprawling over the top of his handlebars. Ouch.
Over in a matter of seconds, the high-speed crash sends the cyclist head-first into the ground, totalling his helmet and leaving him with blood pouring from a lump on his head.
As witnesses to the incident rush over to help, you can see blood streaming down the cyclist's face as he sits dazed on the floor, the top of his helmet flapping uselessly near his head.

Eventually, bystanders removed the guy's helmet to reveal a huge lump on the middle of his head, with a hole in the centre oozing out blood. He also has a cut right near the edge of his eye. Yeesh, hope he got some good treatment for that.
The incident took place almost five years ago but footage of it only emerged online yesterday, with one of the group describing in the caption how the group were forced to get back on their bikes and find help for the injured cyclist.
"We were on a day trip and we stopped to go through that little river," it read. "It seemed fun to record us while we were passing and then the accident happened.

"As we were not near the city, we had to pedal for a while until I reached the road so we could ask for help."
We all know how brutal cycling can be even at the best of times, as Tour de France cyclist Pawel Poljanski shared a shocking pic of his legs after 16 stages of the race last year.
Having been battered by almost 3km of cycling, Pawel's legs and feet looked badly bruised with one person comparing him to a 'human leaf'.
Still, you can't account for accidents like the one this Venezuelan guy had. Hopefully the guy got back on his bike soon enough.
