Woman Pretends She's Going On Love Island After Boyfriend Doesn't Reply To Texts

There's many ways to handle a fall out in a relationship: you can try and make peace and make a lasagne, or start a cold war and refuse to acknowledge your other half's existence.

But one woman presumably only made her fall out with her boyfriend worse by pretending she was going on Love Island.

Lily Jade Straw, from Doncaster, took the extreme measure after her partner didn't reply for a 'while'; and as you might expect, her boyfriend replied promptly after he got the text.

The message read: "Just to let u know I've been asked to go on Love Island and I've decided to go take the opportunity.

"I wanted to tell u today but after Saturday I won't be able to talk to u as I'm going into lockdown."

"It was nice knowing you."

The 19-year-old then got the attention she craved, with her boyfriend replying: "Answer the phone now."

Lily subsequently shared a screenshot of the exchange on Twitter and it has gone viral, receiving more than 38,000 likes and 3,700 retweets.

Commenting on the prank, one person said: "Hahahahah that's so funny."

Another said: "Why did I not think of this?!"

A third added: "Looool this is jokes, imagine what was going through his mind at that time."

So, evidently the prank worked - though it's unclear whether it made their falling out worse in the long run.

In a similarly brutal vein, Channel 4 is launching a new programme later this year which sounds like a mash-up of Love Island and Come Dine With Me.

Five Guys A Week will do pretty much what it says on the tin; one woman will move into a house with five men and dump them one by one until she has the man of her dreams.

Over the course of a week, they will be put through a series of relationship tests, 'fast-tracking' the 'getting to know you' phase of a relationship, with the lads vying for the woman's affections.

In the show, men will go everywhere with their potential flame, 'whether that's to work, on a night out with mates, or for dinner with the parents'.

Speaking about the new series, Gilly Greenslade, factual entertainment commissioning editor for Channel 4, said: "This simple format goes well beyond the realm of a traditional dating show. The pilot was hugely entertaining, but also explored what people actually want from their partners as well as offering a revealing - and sometimes surprising - insight into the male psyche."
