A homeowner was left stunned to discover there was a whole other house in his attic.

The man shared pictures of the surprise apartment hidden in his house on Reddit shortly after making the weird revelation.

He didn't disclose the location of his home, but said he had no idea what was lurking in the attic until shoving his head through the hole in the roof.

The apartment-like area is complete with a bathroom, floral, old-fashioned wallpaper and even windows.

The Reddit user shared a picture of the outside of the building to show what it actually looks like and explain how there's another house in the upper-level - revealing his home was formerly a church, and a shop before that.

He wrote: "It was a store where the owners lived upstairs. It was turned into a church, I'm guessing the church owners didn't want to bother with knocking it down so they just built around it.

"When it was converted into a church the second floor was sealed off and a c-shaped addition was added to the ground floor, with a large attic built around the second floor."

When an intrigued Reddit user asked what's up there, the original posted responded: "Junk, old cabinet, a tire, a hat, a toilet and sink. Dirt. Lots of dirt. And spiders."

When one person joked on the thread that it's their 'summer home', the man replied: "Okay well clean up a little when you leave next time."

Someone else asked: "Oh wtf. I thought it was a dollhouse. How huge is your attic? Have you checked if there's another house inside you attic-house's attic?"

Another added: "It's honestly amazing you weren't killed by some horror movie s*** when you checked out the first house in the attic, don't press your luck by checking for a house in the attic of that house in your attic. Just burn it down, sell the property to some young yuppie couple and move across the country."
