A woman who had a blocked plughole for a year-and-a-half made a grim discovery after she finally managed to get to the cause of the blockage - a massive ball of hair.

Posting on Facebook group Mums Who Clean, the Aussie woman said: "I've had three plumbers come out over the past 18 months as my shower drain kept coming back up, all said it was clear."

And yet, the problem persisted, so she decided to take matters into her own hands and used a bottle cleaner to try and dredge out the plug hole.

Alongside her post, the woman posted a photo of the huge hair ball she pulled out the drain and it was enough to turn stomachs.

The post has picked up more than 1,500 comments from social media users, with many unable to even bring themselves to look at the gross lump of matted hair.

One disgusted person wrote: "Wow. OMG I almost threw up seeing that."

While another said it was 'too much to stomach'.

This isn't the first tip to shared on the Mums Who Clean group that has left followers feeling a bit queasy.

Earlier this year one woman showed us all how important it is to keep our carpets clean and vacuumed.

The woman showed off the results after she deep-cleaned her carpets, sharing a clip in which she could be seen pouring a dark brown liquid down her sink.

The mum said she has to regularly deep clean her carpets due to her daughter's asthma, but it's usually recommended that a thorough clean such as this is carried out about once a year.

In response, another woman wrote: "Well that makes me feel like a grot. My carpet is five years old and I just vacuum one to two times a week, though have been thinking to have it professionally cleaned soon."

Another added: "If I had a kid with asthma, I would definitely pull [the carpet] up and replace with floorboards."

However, the mum says that wasn't possible as they currently rent their home. So, it looks as though she's stuck deep cleaning in the mean time.
