Woman dumps her boyfriend after ChatGPT tells her to

The Essex woman spoke to it daily to get over the breakup quickly

At the moment, it feels like more and more people have been turning to ChatGPT for advice on every inch of their lives.

From how to cook something to how to write an essay or even just which shoes to wear with their outfit and now it seems some are even going to it for relationship advice.

And one woman ended up dumping her boyfriend ‘because ChatGPT told her to’.

The artificial intelligence ‘counsellor’ went as far as writing her breakup messages as Jennyfer Jay sought its advice daily. The 38-year-old’s mates had encouraged her to give the fella more chances but apparently the bot said she ‘deserves better’.

The pair had been together for four months before her ‘break-up buddy’ helped her get over him within two weeks.

"I told ChatGPT what he did and how it made me feel bad," the Essex woman said, before adding: "It said I deserve better than someone who is not showing up fully and that empowered me to make the decision."

While her friends were ‘more forgiving’, the free programme made her realise she was ‘done with this guy’ as he ‘wasn’t trying’.

"When the relationship was crumbling, I was drafting messages and sending it to it because it did help word them better," Jay added.

She even says it ended up being more helpful than therapy sessions she’s forked out for previously as it helped her ‘process’ everything.

"When the breakup happened, I was really upset and I was on it all day every day," she said.

"It just became a breakup buddy. On the days when you're really upset and trying to process everything in your mind it was just amazing to have it there 24/7 to speak to."

While she said ‘it’s scary’ how it can be so ‘empathetic, she’s encouraging others to go to it for its ‘objective’ advice, especially as it can be ‘annoying’ to go to your friends about it all the time.

Although she’s warned others to ask it to act as a professional therapist and not a mate.

Chat GPT developers Open AI say the tool is not a substitute for mental health support or professional care and when sensitive topics arise its often encourages users to seek help.

"When you talk to it about relationship stuff it can pander to you quite a bit, so I was telling it to act like a relationship counsellor, I didn't want it to act like my friend," Jay explained.

"People say ChatGPT just tells you what you want to hear but you can be clever about the prompts you use."

But while she recommends others to use it for ‘processing breakups’, some users on TikTok say it makes them ‘feel uneasy’.

Although others also say it’s been a ‘life saver’ during their own breakups.
