Adam Sandler is one of the biggest names in film, but for every Uncut Gems and Hustle there's a Hubie Halloween and a Jack and Jill, and the actor is no stranger to a scathing review.
Now Sandler has hit back at his critics and said that when his films do get slammed, more often than not he remembers a piece of advice his father gave him.

Though Sandler was famously snubbed at the Oscars for his stellar performance in Uncut Gems and may well have another shot at Best Actor with this year's sports drama Hustle, he's also made plenty of movies that have been torn apart by film critics.
Jack and Jill, a 2011 comedy in which Sandler stars as both of the titular siblings, was one of his worst critical turkeys, with Variety's Andrew Barker writing: "The pic's general stupidity, careless direction and reliance on a single-joke premise that was never really funny to begin with are only the most obvious of its problems."
Grown Ups 2, meanwhile, has a Rotten Tomatoes critics' score of just eight percent.

It was released in 2013 to gut wrenching reviews, with one from the Irish Times' Donald Clarke reading: "No human being possesses the imaginative power to sufficiently lower his or her expectations to anticipate the sheer laziness of this putrid ensemble comedy."
You can imagine this might be uncomfortable reading for the man himself, but while Sandler admits negative reviews do upset him, he tries not to let them get to him.
In a recent interview with AARP, he was asked if reading harsh reviews 'stings', and he admitted that it sometimes does.

Explaining why the critics' comments hurt, he added: "Mostly because I invite all these amazing people I care about to make movies with me, and I wish they didn’t have to read s*** about whatever we’ve made."
However, the comedian said he ‘doesn’t get too shook up’ about bad reviews.
He explained: “I always remember something my father said.
“I recall one time something didn’t go right for me. I bombed onstage or didn’t get an audition. I was upset and probably embarrassed.
"And he said, ‘Adam, you can’t always be happy. People aren’t always going to like you. You’re going to fail.’”

Despite the negativity surrounding some of his movies, Sandler's latest collaborations with Netflix have exceeded all expectations in terms of viewing numbers.
He's also confirmed he's set to reunite with Uncut Gems directors Josh and Benny Safdie for another movie.
If it's anywhere near as good as their last effort, negative reviews aren't going to be a concern.
