Cinephiles are already calling for Austin Butler to win an Oscar for his performance in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. Watch the trailer below:

The film follows the late star's rise to fame and his complex personal and public relationships, focusing particularly on his ties to manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by none other than Tom Hanks.

Taking to Twitter in their drove, one thrilled viewer penned: "I saw Elvis yesterday and it just blew me away!!

"Austin Butler embodied Elvis in every way. The film paid homage to African American music, stage performance, and clothes from Beale St. Hanks, as usual was great. Oscars all around!"

"And the Oscar goes to…. #AustinButler," another commented.

A third insisted: "They aren't lying about Austin Butler. He is a shoe-in for an Oscar nom for the ‘Suspicious Minds’ sequence alone."

Saw #Elvis with my mates last night, and for a guy who usually doesn’t like musical films or biopics, this was by far one of the best films of 2022 so far. Austin Butler deserves his Oscar, his performance as Elvis is one of the best I’ve ever seen, truly mind-blowing. Loved it. pic.twitter.com/XsD8warQrk

"Austin Butler is definitely gonna be a favourite at the Oscars for his performance in Elvis," a movie lover claimed.

A fifth said: "Saw #Elvis with my mates last night, and for a guy who usually doesn’t like musical films or biopics, this was by far one of the best films of 2022 so far.

"Austin Butler deserves his Oscar, his performance as Elvis is one of the best I’ve ever seen, truly mind-blowing. Loved it."

"Went with my son to watch Elvis. Incredible. Unbelievable performance. And Austin Butler will win an Oscar," another echoed.

Earlier this week, Lisa Marie Presley, 54, said that Butler deserves an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll.

Asked by Extra if the actor deserves an Oscar nom for his work, Presley’s only child said: "A thousand percent... I mean, truly. You know, I’m a bit biased, but absolutely, 100 percent... I can look at it objectively as well, sure.

"I think that he did such an incredible job."

Austin Butler has been lauded with praise for his portrayal.

This isn't the first time that Lisa Marie has praised the film as back in May, she took to Twitter to note: "I do want to take a moment to let you know that I've seen Baz Luhrmann's movie Elvis twice now.

"Let me tell you that it is nothing short of spectacular. Absolutely exquisite. Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father’s heart & soul beautifully."

She followed up by saying: "In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha)."

Elvis is cinemas across the US and UK now.
