Bam Margera’s family shares candid statement in response to the ‘Free Bam’ movement

They've hit out against speculation that the Jackass star is now in a conservatorship.

Bam Margera's family has shared a candid statement in response to people calling for him to be freed.

The Jackass star is back in rehab and fans were worried he was being placed under a conservatorship due to his mental health struggles.

That's led to people posted on social media with 'Free Bam' messages.

However, the iconic skateboarder's loved ones have shut down speculation that he is somehow being controlled and being ordered to do things against his will.

"It's no secret that Bam has struggled with mental health and addiction," the statement said. "You've watched Bam grow up and supported him through his ups and downs.

"Our family has let you into the chaos that is our home, and we want nothing more than to continue this journey together.

"The 'Free Bam' movement has caused confusion and threat to Bam and our families.

"Although we love sharing our lives with you, some things need to be handled privately, and treatment is one of them. Recovery is difficult and even more so under public scrutiny."

The family said they will be controlling his social media for now 'while he focuses on his recovery'.

The statement said Bam has never been in a conservatorship and they have instead put him under a 'temporary healthcare guardianship'.

They said the reasons behind that decision won't be released to the public.

"If Bam chooses to speak to this, he will when he is ready," the statement added.

"The 'Free Bam' theorists have encouraged his exit from treatment, despite their lacking knowledge of the details, his health, and well-being.

"We kindly ask you to respect the process and our family. As our extended family, we ask for you to support Bam in his recovery, to stay on track, and wish him well with his sobriety."

Bam disappeared from the LifeSkills facility without permission back in June and authorities went on the hunt to find the star.

He told his rehab he was unhappy with the services they were providing and explained to the manager that he was going to check himself into another rehab facility.

He was eventually discovered in a Florida hotel two days later and reportedly demanded to see his son.

According to TMZ, Margera was told he’d have to re-enter rehab in order to do so.

An ‘on-the-spot’ intervention was held at the hotel and some of his family ‘called in’ to speak to the star, who ‘voluntarily’ agreed to check into a new facility.
