Barbara Streisand gives her cloned dogs massive birthday party

The star was so obsessed with her dog that she had one cloned twice and thousands of dollars doing so.

Britain may be a nation of animal lovers, but few of us would go as far for our pets as Barbra Streisand.

The Broadway icon threw a fifth birthday bash for her beloved pooch Miss Fanny on Wednesday (3 May), sharing an adorable photo of her next to a cake.

The actor had previously revealed that she’d had another dog cloned twice (yes, really).

Like many of us, the 81-year-old struggled to move on after the death of her dog, Samantha - who passed away aged 14 in 2017.

In an interview last year with Associated Press, she revealed that her pet had come to ‘every performance’ of her and the death had been like ‘losing a child’.

Struggling to process her grief, Streisand decided to clone Samantha in a complex process using cells from the dog’s mouth and stomach.

Unsurprisingly, the procedure isn’t cheap either and cost the Meet The Fockers star between $50,000-$100,000 (£39k-£79k) to have her Coton de Tulear cloned - not once but twice.

While her new puppies, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlet, may be genetically identical to her previous pooch, Streisand insists that there are still subtle differences.

“They have different personalities,” she told Variety in 2018, adding: “I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha’s] brown eyes and seriousness.”

The Funny Girl actor also adopted the Samantha's distant cousin, Miss Fanny.

In fact, Streisand is so obsessed with her dogs that she even threw a fifth birthday party for the adoptee.

Fans flocked to wish Miss Fanny a happy birthday.

On Wednesday, she shared a photograph of all three pooches sat besides a birthday cake and told her 1.5 million Instagram followers about the special day.

In the caption, she added pawprint emojis and wrote: “They all enjoyed Miss Fanny’s birthday party.”

Fans also joined in on the celebrations in the comments, with one writing: “Happy Bday Fanny! Love the unicorn cake.”

Another excitedly added: “Happy Birthday sweet, adorable Miss Fanny.”

While one user added several birthday-themed emojis and wrote: “You and your sister sure look beautiful and ready to party!!!!”

Meanwhile, some fans were sad to miss out on the party as one comment read: “Uhmmmm where was my invite I would have given her presents.”

We guess the dog days are far from over in the Streisand household.
