Gary Lineker struggled to hold it together as 'loud porn noises' started playing during BBC One's coverage of tonight's FA Cup game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool.

Watch the clip here:

The bizarre noises began as Lineker was about to hand over to Alan Shearer in the commentary box.

“I don’t know who’s making that noise," Lineker said through laughter.

As Shearer appeared on screen, looking chilly in his winter coat and hat, Lineker added: "I mean, it's toasty in this studio - it's a bit noisy as well!"

Naturally, it wasn't long before the footage was splashed all over social media, as viewers watched on in shock - many noting how it lasted for a fair while before being cut off.

Posting footage of the incident on Twitter, one amused user wrote: "Omg on BBC One."

Someone else said: "How are they still trying to go on with business as usual I’m crying man."

A third said: "Gary’s face."

A fourth added: "Someone is literally playing loud porn noises on BBC One and they're just continuing like nothing is happening..."

After the moment went viral, Lineker took to Twitter to address what happened - admitting he found the whole thing quite 'amusing'.

"Well, we found this taped to the back of the set," he wrote.

"As sabotage goes it was quite amusing."

Many others found the prank equally funny, with one commenting: "Honestly that is one impressive prank."

Political commentator James Melville also joked: "Until you commented on it, the entire country would have been having rather tense household discussions about why this noise was coming from their own TV. Everyone can relax now."

Lineker struggled to get through it with a straight face.

A spokesperson for the BBC told LADbible in a statement: "We apologise to any viewers offended during the live coverage of the football this evening.

"We are investigating how this happened.”

Lineker has been a sports presenter for the BBC for more than two decades, following his retirement from football in the mid 1990s.

Last year, he was praised for his powerful opening monologue ahead of the first game of the 2022 World Cup - delivering a scathing speech on FIFA's corruption in awarding Qatar the tournament, and Qatar's record on human rights.

He said: "Ever since FIFA chose Qatar back in 2010 the smallest nation to have hosted football's greatest competition has faced some big questions.

"From accusations of corruption in the bidding process to the treatment of migrant workers who built the stadiums, where many lost their lives.

"Homosexuality is illegal here, women's rights and freedom of expression are in the spotlight. Also the decision six years ago to switch the World Cup from summer to winter."

Wrapping things up, the presenter said attention would turn towards the football as 'there's a tournament to be played', and he explained that the World Cup would be 'watched and enjoyed around the world'.

Lineker ended the speech by addressing those who demanded that critics of Qatar 'stick to football', promising that they would 'for a couple of minutes at least'.

Viewers praised Lineker's speech, with one person saying 'that's how you open a World Cup TV coverage', applauding the former footballer for 'not holding back'.

Another approved of the way he 'went straight into it', while a third called it a 'very powerful intro'.
