Black Mirror series six will feature elements creator Charlie Brooker swore he would never do

The trailer for the latest series of Black Mirror dropped earlier today, with the Netflix show being available to stream from June 6.

After the trailer for the latest season of Black Mirror dropped today, creator Charlie Brooker has teased that the sixth season will feature elements he swore he’d ‘never use’.

The dark anthology show is well known for its unnerving storylines, cutting satire and dystopian worlds, with Brooker promising the next instalment will ‘stretch the parameters’ of the series.

Fans of the series will be delighted by the news as the show has been on a four-year hiatus after the fifth series aired back in 2019.

Speaking about the show’s sudden departure from our screens, Brooker admitted that he had wanted to focus on other projects after Covid-19.

Back in 2020, he told the Radio Times: "At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those."

It is fairly understandable given all that has happened in the world since then, including a global pandemic, climate change and a Prime Minster that couldn’t outlast a lettuce.

While the world may not be back to normal just yet, the 52-year-old writer feels the public is finally ready for his new instalment of Black Mirror.

Brooker even admitted that he couldn’t wait for fans to binge the new series, with its ‘cast of actors so talented they frankly have no right to exist’ - including Salma Hayek and Aaron Paul.

Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul will star in the next series.

In an interview with Tudum, a blog by Netflix, Brooker insisted that the latest instalment will be different from anything that has come before.

“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point?” he said.

Continuing, he added: “It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself.”

As an anthology series, Black Mirror struggles to be defined with a constant change of characters, worlds and plot points – all with an unequally unhinged dark tone.

Yet, Brooker was still not satisfied and set out to challenge his ‘own core assumptions about what to expect’ in a bid to keep the show ‘fresh’ for audiences at home.

The latest series will be available to stream from June 6.

"This time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is,” he revealed.

He then teased fans saying that though the upcoming episodes are ‘all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through’ viewers can expect some ‘crazy swings’ and more ‘variety’.

You have been warned!

The latest series of Black Mirror will be available to stream on Netflix from June 6.
