Fans bemused after finding out Britney's Toxic was written about Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick

Fans bemused after finding out Britney's Toxic was written about Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick

The surprising bit of Britney Spears trivia has blown some fans' minds after they learned about the Supervet's connection

While musicians draw inspiration from everyday life, you may be surprised to find out that the Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick inspired one of the most iconic noughties songs.

Surprisingly, Britney Spears’ classic track ‘Toxic’ was actually about Channel 4’s very own Supervet, Dr Noel Fitzpatrick (Yes, really).

The piece of trivia has shocked fans of the pop princess, with many taking to Twitter after their minds were blown by the fact.

Before you scroll back trying to find when Spears and Fitzpatrick dated, they didn’t.

Instead, the TV personality became the inspiration for the pop song after his relationship with songwriter, Cathy Dennis.

According to the Daily Mail, the pair first met when Dennis brought her Labrador, Charlie, in for a check-up.

While the songwriter’s heart was set aflutter, the couple weren’t meant to be and split in 2003 – the same year ‘Toxic’ was released.

Having also written chart toppers like 'I Can't Get You Out Of My Head' and ‘I Kissed a Girl’, Dennis decided to hit out at her ill-fated romance the Supervet.

While Fitzpatrick is usually associated with all things cute and cuddly, the number 1 song describes the relationship as ‘addictive’ and ‘dangerous’.

Though the Irish vet hasn’t confirmed the track was based on him, he did hint at the fact during an interview on This Morning.

When asked by presenter Holly Willoughby about the hit record, he coyly told viewers: “You may have to ask Kylie Minogue whether 'I Can't Get You Out Of My Head' is written about me.”

Despite his famous connection to Spears, fans of the ‘Gimme More’ singer are just learning about the strange link between her and the Supervet.

Of course, the internet did not disappoint with hilarious tweets about the piece of trivia.

“Just heard your brief rendition of Britney Spears 'Toxic' on The Trawl. Found out this fact this week that it is a song written about C4 'The Supervet' Noel Fitzpatrick by Cathy Dennis. Blew my mind,” said one confused fan.

Another revealed that they’d learnt about the pop trivia on Tik Tok, tweeting: “I seen a tik tok (obviously) and omg my new favourite fact is that toxic by Britney Spears is actually about the supervet Noel Fitzpatrick.”

Meanwhile, a third admitted that they’d struggled to contain their excitement after learning about Fitzpatrick’s connection to the classic pop track.

“Me to anyone who will listen: “Did you know the song ‘toxic’ by Britney Spears was supposedly written about Noel Fitzpatrick aka The Supervet,” they excitedly wrote.

We can’t wait until they find out about all the other weird connections in Hollywood.
