David Beckham Says He And Wife Victoria Are 'Saving The Pennies' Now They Have Children

You'd be forgiven for thinking that former footballer David Beckham and his fashion-designer wife Victoria live quite a lavish lifestyle - fancy dinners, expensive holidays, clothes with eye-watering price labels, etc.

The pair were worth an estimated £339 million ($469 million) last year, thanks in part to his lucrative deals with companies such as Adidas and H&M and her fashion empire.

But despite being worth such an obscene amount, David has said that the pair are actually looking after the pennies now they have four children. Honestly.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, the former Manchester United player was quick to remind people that their days of living - and spending - carefree were behind them now they had kids.

He told the magazine: "We used to be very extravagant in what we'd buy each other. But we're obviously saving the pennies now because we have so many children to be extravagant with."

So, instead of splashing out on matching thrones for him and his missus, the couple are now spending their money on their children. Well, I think most parents could identify with that, but then again, most parents don't have millions in the bank.

Although, he doesn't completely deprive himself of treats, apparently, because he told the magazine that his house is 'full of candles', adding, 'I am a big candle freak.'

Rather than the cars and jewellery the pair used to spoil each other with, Becks said he and Victoria are now enjoying the more low-key side of life, saying: "So it's the simple things, really. It's more about spending time together, going for a simple dinner together. Having a nice bottle of wine together."

However, the Beckham's version of a 'nice bottle of wine' and yours or mine might differ, because the pair aren't willing to settle for the second cheapest one they can find in Co Op - nope, Victoria spent £2,426 ($3,362) on a bottle of 'Screaming Eagle' wine last year. Bloody hell, no wonder it's screaming at that price.
