Scrubs Star Sam Lloyd Has Died Aged 56

Actor Sam Lloyd, famous for his role as Ted Buckland in US comedy drama Scrubs, has died aged 56.

Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: "Thinking a lot about Sam Lloyd today. (Ted). Truly such a kind, sweet guy. He will be missed by so many."

Lloyd was tragically diagnosed with inoperable cancer in January 2019, just weeks after he and his wife Vanessa had welcomed their first child, Weston.

A GoFundMe page was set up at the time by Scrubs producer Tim Hobert and his wife, which raised over $150,000 (£120,000) towards Lloyd's medical bills, along with childcare and other expenses.

Writing on the fundraiser, the Hoberts said: "In the face of this devastating news, Sam and Vanessa have been incredibly strong and positive. Humor and laughter, which have been a huge part of Sam's life, will undoubtedly help him with what lies ahead.

"Just hours after being diagnosed, Sam was cheering on his beloved New England Patriots in his hospital room. When the nurse asked him to 'cheer quieter,' Sam politely nodded. When the nurse left the room, Sam turned to Vanessa and his friends and said, 'What are they gonna do? Kill me?'"

Lloyd was born in Weston, Vermont, US in 1963, the nephew of Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd.

He guest starred in The West Wing, Malcolm in the Middle and Desperate Housewives, but he is best known for his role as lawyer Ted Buckland in US medical drama Scrubs.

Alongside his acting career, Lloyd was a member of a cappella group The Blanks, who appeared in Scrubs under various names including Ted's Band and The Worthless Peons and also released two albums.

Zach Braff, who played JD in Scrubs, paid tribute to the late actor on Twitter. He wrote: "Rest In Peace to one of the funniest actors I've ever had the joy of working with.

"Sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. He could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."

Robert Maschio, who played Dr Todd, wrote: "Simpler times, happier days, the kindest man I ever met. Easy going Sam, Rest In Peace. #RIPSamLloyd."
