Reason why Amber Heard chose to become a mother by herself as she shares rare life update

Amber Heard looks to be living a simple but happy life in Spain after welcoming twins into her family last year.

The Aquaman actress has largely disappeared from Hollywood since losing her legal battle with Johnny Depp back in 2022, but there's no doubting that the 40-year-old actress seems to be happier now.

She recently shared another rare insight into her life in Spain, completing a half-marathon in San Sebastian, in what was one of her sporadic posts on Instagram.

But what many don't know is that Heard had long-running fertility issues which prevented her from becoming a biological mother, and after welcoming her first child via surrogacy in 2021, she confirmed last year that she'd added another two children to her family, without confirming the identity of any of the children's fathers.

Heard announced the family update on Instagram, writing: "Mother’s Day 2025 will be one I’ll never forget. This year I am elated beyond words to celebrate the completion of the family I’ve strived to build for years.

"Today I officially share the news that I welcomed twins into the Heard gang. My daughter Agnes and my son Ocean are keeping my hands (and my heart) full.

"When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my world changed forever. I thought I couldn’t possibly burst with more joy. Well, now I am bursting times three!!!

"Becoming a mother by myself and on my own terms despite my own fertility challenges has been the most humbling experience of my life. I am eternally grateful that I was able to choose this responsibly and thoughtfully.

"To all the moms, wherever you are today and however you got here, my dream family and I are celebrating with you. Love always, A x."

Speaking to People, a spokesperson for Heard added: "Amber is delighted to welcome the twins and complete her family.

"Mama and babies are enjoying every minute. And Oonagh is happily running the show."

The magazine had reported last year that Heard had a baby on the way, and it's turned out to be twins.

The babies are a boy, Ocean, and a girl, Agnes, respectively.

Heard is currently living in Madrid, Spain, away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, with the actress even reportedly changing her name as a way of going under the radar.

Then again, it's been reported that she's living in a fancy neighbourhood populated by celebrities, footballers and politicians so it's not exactly an end to the glitz and glamour.

She moved to Madrid back in 2022, having previously spent time living in Mallorca.

Director Conor Allyn, who worked on the film In The Fire with Heard, said in 2023 that the actor was 'living her best life in Spain with her daughter and just finding happiness in that way'.

He said she was 'such a dedicated mom' and told People Heard was 'really good about making the time'.
