Over 15 years on from the third film, a fourth instalment of the Fockers franchise is coming.
Yep, another one. Welcoming the next addition to the family, Focker In-Law is set to release in cinemas in November.
And that new in-law is Olivia Jones, played by the one and only Ariana Grande.
She previously made an iconic dig at the films during a Saturday Night Live appearance in December as she said: “When something is perfect, it doesn’t need a sequel… What? That’s why I just finished filming Meet the Parents 4.”

But while some are surprised to see the franchise, complete with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro, return again, others were more baffled by Grande herself.
The trailer dropped for the film yesterday (16 April), giving us a first look at the Wicked star’s character.
In the film, Olivia is the new girlfriend of Greg Focker’s (Stiller) son, Henry (Skyler Gisondo).
And it becomes pretty clear Jack Byrnes (De Niro) has given his approval, as he talks about welcoming her into the coveted ‘circle of trust’. Any fan of the franchise know that this is of course going to sting for Greg. Poor guy.
So, the potential in-law to be, who also turns out to be a former FBI hostage negotiator, enters a bit of a war with Greg who brands her an ‘evil Geppetto’.
But amid all the comedy and chaos of the trailer, it’s something rather simple that has social media users doing a double-take: Grande’s voice.
For the past couple of years, we’ve become very (if not over-) used to seeing and hearing the pop star portray her witch character, Glinda.
The girl in the bubble with the very distinct look and in particular, the very, very distinct voice.
And people can’t get over the change as she adopts a different voice and accent for the role of Olivia.

“Genuinely gasped hearing her speak without the Glinda voice for the first time in 3 years,” one wrote on X.
Another simply put: “HER VOICE??”
Others said they ‘realised they don’t know what her actual voice sounds like’ as a fourth said: “The whiplash is REAL like wait, that’s her actual voice?? I’ve been conditioned for 3 years.”
While another put: “I'll probably never get used to Ari's real speaking voice. It's very deep compared to her singing voice and her voice for Kat from Victorious.”
Grande has previously spoke about how she ‘intentionally changes her vocal placement’ dependent on how much singing she is doing.
And of course, this isn’t her first rodeo; she rose to fame on screen acting in Nickelodeon’s Victorious. Taking to CinemaCon yesterday, De Niro called her ‘probably the single funniest scene partner I’ve ever been lucky enough to share the screen with’ as he and Stiller riffed of each other.
