Newly unsealed texts show claims from Justin Baldoni that he told someone Blake Lively was 'setting me up for a trap' over filming intimate scenes in It Ends With Us.

Baldoni directed the romance film based on a book of the same name and co-starred with Lively as the lead characters, but their time together has led to a major legal battle.

Lively filed a lawsuit in December 2024 alleging that Baldoni had sexually harassed her and subsequently launched a smear campaign, he denied the allegations from Lively and countersued her as he claimed she and her husband Ryan Reynolds had hijacked production of It Ends With Us.

He also accused Lively of contributing to a New York Times article which he called a 'duplicitous attempt to destroy him', she denied it being such.

Baldoni's countersuit was dismissed by a judge in June 2025 and though his team was given time to appeal against the decision they did not do so and his lawsuits appear to have ended.

Lively's lawsuit against him is still ongoing with the next hearing scheduled for 22 January and a trial date currently pencilled in for 18 May.

Now, People reports that newly unsealed texts show Baldoni had claimed in messages that he thought Lively was 'setting me up for a trap' which he sent on 30 December 2023 to his former agent Danny Greenberg.

In the messages, Baldoni wrote that he was having a 'really, really bad week' and claimed that Lively had requested a private meeting at her home and alleged that there had been a dispute over filming intimate scenes for It Ends With Us.

Baldoni claimed Lively 'refused' to use a body double for sex scenes and alleged that she was attempting to 'trap' him, he also wrote that Lively was insisting he use a body double.

He described the situation as a 'giant clusterf**k' and complained that Lively was trying to keep both actors fully clothed during a romantic moment, with him writing: "If you know the book, it's just ridiculous."

Claiming that he was giving Lively '95 percent of what she wants for peace', he called her 'an actress who is rewriting the writer and director'.

Five days after those messages were sent there was an 'all hands' meeting featuring Baldoni, Lively, Reynolds and studio representatives to discuss protections Lively had requested before production on the movie resumed.

These protections had already been agreed to in writing in November 2023 and People reports they were supposed to address Lively's concerns about safety on set.

People quotes a 'source close to Lively' who told them: "These messages were sent only after Blake had laid out in detail the numerous ways that Baldoni and Heath had created a hostile work environment on the set, after they agreed to more than a dozen 'protections' for the safety of the cast and crew, and just days ahead of the January 4 meeting at which these protections would be discussed before filming resumed."

This source went on to say the unsealed text messages 'underscores Baldoni’s retaliatory intent'.

They added: "It reflects his private anger over the same safeguards that he had said in public were both 'reasonable' and 'essential,' and which he later admitted in his deposition were reasonable, including his resentment for having to show up to an 'all hands' meeting he had also agreed to."

LADbible has contacted Lively and Baldoni's representatives for comment.
