Conspiracy theorists claim Blue Origin mission was 'Hollywood fake' and video of Katy Perry in space was actually CGI

Conspiracy theorists claim Blue Origin mission was 'Hollywood fake' and video of Katy Perry in space was actually CGI

It didn't take long for the conspiracy theorists to share their thoughts on the mission

In case you missed it, a bunch of famous people embarked on a mission to space onboard a rather phallic looking Jeff Bezos rocket.

The 11-minute mission saw pop singer Katy Perry join CBS journalist Gayle King, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn and journalist and Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sánchez on an all-female trip to space.

Decked out in spacesuits which looked like they were pulled from the Marvel dressing room, the group's voyage into space was covered extensively by news outlets.

Which meant the eyes of the world were on West Texas as the six women blasted off into space and very quickly came back down again.

While the famous faces in attendance, which included Kris Jenner, Khloe Kardashian and Oprah Winfrey, appeared moved by the mission, the rest of us were largely left wondering 'was that it?'

Videos from inside the capsule have since been released as well, prompting many to question Perry's decision to announce the setlist for her upcoming tour on an unreadable butterfly card instead of spending her four minutes in outer space looking out the window.

Now, just over a day on from the mission's completion, conspiracy theorists are now crawling out of the woodwork to weigh in on the footage.

And surprise surprise, they've branded the footage was CGI and a 'Hollywood fake'.

Taking to X to share their theories, one person wrote: "Anyone else think that the Blue Origin flight today was a Hollywood fake?"

"Why do Blue Origin's liftoffs look fake? Do they incorporate AI," added a second user, while a third penned: "I’m pretty certain this Blue Origin launch is fake!! It doesn’t even look real. The real question is… why? Why go through all the trouble. A distraction from something?"

Others went even further, claiming the footage of the women floating had been created inside a movie studio, while some claimed the while thing was one big Satanic ritual.

Because of course, you can't talk about a celebrity conspiracy theory without wheeling out arguments about Satan and the Illuminati.

So why is it that so many people are quick to brand the video a fake?

"This mission brings together two domains that have long been fertile ground for conspiracy theories: space exploration and celebrity culture," Dr Daniel Jolley, an expert on the psychology of conspiracies from the University of Nottingham, told MailOnline.

Given the impact that blasting rockets full of celebrities will inevitably have on the environment, many of us will be certainly be wishing the whole excursion was faked. However I can't say any of the above arguments are pretty compelling.
