In a statement shared with LADbible, the Brownsville Police Department said: “The Brownsville Police Department can confirm the death of Roy Frank ‘RJ’ Mitte.
“The cause and manner of death remain pending an official determination.
“The investigation remains ongoing.”
Tributes have poured in for the actor, with Bryan Cranston, who played his on-screen dad, saying he was in 'deep despair' to hear of Mitte's death.

Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman on the hit show, said he was ‘at a loss’ and ‘heartbroken’ over the news.
Mitte’s ex-girlfriend Saint Sasha has also shared a sweet tribute to her former teenage boyfriend, saying he had the ‘rarest and kindest’ heart.
Alongside several throwback snaps of the young couple, Sasha wrote: “I fell in love for the first time when I was 18. RJ was the first person to show me how a man is supposed to treat a woman.
“He was the first partner to build me up and make me feel unstoppable. He had one of the kindest and rarest hearts I’d ever had the privilege to experience and he was still a friend. I can’t believe this is real.
“Never in any lifetime could I forget him and how he made me feel. He was the first and last of his kind.
“Thank you for everything, endlessly, RJ. I love you, homie.”
Mitte’s tragic death comes a year after he announced that he had got engaged to his partner Kennedy Suarez after five years of dating.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE at the time, Mitte said: "I'm thrilled to have found my person, my partner in life who makes me want to be better, no matter what we're doing.

"Kennedy is my everything and I can't wait to officially start our life together and see what adventures life takes us on next."
Mitte, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three, used his career to raise awareness of the condition.
His Breaking Bad character also had the condition, and Mitte said that he 'regressed' to play the part as Walt Jr.’s cerebral palsy was far more severe than his was in real life.
In an interview just days before his death, Mitte told the The Joe Vulpis Podcast that he believed there was still more to see in the Breaking Bad world.
He shared: "I don’t think it was an end. I think it was really the end of Heisenberg’s journey, but I don’t think that was the end of Skyler and Walt and Holly’s journey.
"And you know I think there’s a lot of unanswered questions there, that for them will probably never be answered. So I think there’s still a big step for the White family.
"There’s always more to be told. But you got to tell it right!"
