In early March, Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

And now, it has been confirmed that the 44-year-old has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility. It’s not totally clear when the singer entered rehab but her last post on Instagram was on Saturday (11 April) evening.

At the time of her arrest, the California Highway Patrol alleged she was 'driving erratically at a high rate of speed... showed signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests'.

The force added Spears ‘was subsequently arrested for a violation of California Vehicle Code section 23152(g), driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol' and booked.

A representative for the ‘Circus’ singer said at the time: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.

“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her.

"Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being."

In 2021, Spears was released from her nearly 14-year-long conservatorship and has somewhat kept a low-profile since. She has however had some sporadic social media activity over these recent years, with some fans continuing to express concern for her wellbeing.

In a since-deleted post on Instagram, the Princess of Pop claimed in January that she 'will never perform in the US again because of extremely sensitive reasons'.

She has not performed in the states since 2018 when her Piece of Me tour came to an end at the Formula Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

Earlier this year, Spears sold the rights to her songs to Primary Wave in a reported $200 million deal with the music publisher.

Since her arrest in March, the 'Stronger' singer had been spending time with her sons, Sean and Jayden whom she shares with ex Kevin Federline.

She spoke out on Instagram, as pictures of the three were shared.

"Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing !!!," Spears wrote. "Stay kind !!!"
