Sophie Turner releases statement confirming divorce from Joe Jonas

Sophie Turner has released a statement confirming her divorce from Joe Jonas.

After four years of marriage, Jonas and the Game of Thrones actor have called it quits, with Turner, 27, taking to social media to share the news.

The announcement, posted to Instagram this afternoon (6 September) read: "Statement from the two of us: After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage.

"There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."

The Instagram post, which tags Jonas, has currently clocked up more than 179,000 likes since it was first posted but the comments have been turned off.

Jonas shared the exact same post on his Instagram feed also tagging Turner as well as switching off the comments.

The two were first romantically linked back in 2016 and just a year later, in October 2017, they confirmed their engagement.

The pair got married back in 2019 after eloping to Las Vegas for a surprise wedding, and have since had two children together.

Speaking about the engagement to James Corden on his US chat show at the time, Jonas said: "Well, we're going to get married this year. We're going to have a summer wedding, which I'm looking forward to.

"It's going to be a lot of fun."

Turner also previously spoke about the wedding plans to Harper's Bazaar saying she wanted a small ceremony.

She told them: "We're trying to keep it as low-key as possible so it's more of an intimate thing."

Jonas, 34, has since filed the divorce papers at the Miami Dade County Court on Tuesday (5 September) with NBC News reporting that the 'Sucker' singer said their marriage is 'irretrievably broken'.

He also added that the pair 'have shared parental responsibility' over their children as well as a prenuptial agreement.

The joint statement comes after Turner enjoyed a party night out with mates days before her divorce in a popular UK bar.

Turner was recently spotted at Brummie arcade bar, Dropshot Digbeth, after filming for her upcoming ITV series, Joan, in the city.

It has been reported that the outing may have been the wrap party for the series, which saw the star enjoying some value for money cocktails, just a little over six quid a pop.

Videos from the night out also show the star getting involved in all the retro gaming activities at the buzzing spot, including a pretty impressive thwack on a boxing machine.
