Christina Applegate shares first video following months-long hospitalisation

Christina Applegate has shared her first video online after spending months in hospital following health issues.

The post came to Instagram on Monday, 21 September, which saw the 54-year-old sporting a tank top, hoodie, jeans and a sleep blonde do.

“Fresh hair color, new weird spot on my cheek haha thank you @davestanwell for brightening up my cloudy day,” she captioned the video. “Love you and love to you all out there.”

The video is the first post to feature herself in eight weeks, though the star did share an image of Tim Curry in tribute to him after his passing in August.

Then, just one week ago, she posted what appears to be a banner wishing her a ‘happy day ho’ and ‘yay! You're home’ as she captioned the typo: “Meant to post this a while ago. My kid is so my kid hahah.”

In response to Christina’s resurgence online following her diagnosis and battle with multiple sclerosis (MS), many have written words of encouragement in her comments – and you’ll see kind praise from famous faces among the rest.

“You are truly powerful,” Henry Winkler wrote.

Actress Octavia Spencer and talk show host Andy Cohen both commented fire emojis.

Christina had spoken of her hospitalization via Instagram back April, which came after the release of her memoir, You With the Sad Eyes.

She wrote at the time: “Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day.”

She added: “I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”

Christina was diagnosed back in 2021 with the progressive disease, which the NHS says damages the protective cover around nerves in the central nervous system, and can cause symptoms such as muscle weakness, vision changes, numbness, memory loss and more.

Christina once said that the health issues from MS 'are a constant for me', and that she first started experiencing symptoms in 2016 - years before her diagnosis.

"There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted," she said. “Going down the stairs, carrying things - you can’t do that anymore.”

In her book, she also shared the toll it has had on her life, including the moments where she cannot leave her bed.

She wrote the 'full story of her years in the public eye' and the 'painful moments the public didn't see - abuse, abandonment, insecurities, self-doubt, body dysmorphia, assault'.

She said that being diagnosed with MS has mean that she found herself in the position where 'all the things I thought were important shifted'.

“For a long time, it felt impossible to find the meaning in everything I’ve been through, but for the first time in my life, I’ve been able to stop and reflect," she wrote. "I’ve packed a lot into these 50-something years."
