Martin Roberts has opened up about his health after being told he had little time left to live.

The Homes Under The Hammer presenter has been a beloved staple on British television for years, but in 2022, things went south.

He told fans at the time how he was rushed to hospital with 'hours to live' on 20 April after undergoing major surgery at a hospital in Bath.

Roberts shared on X that he found out he has a ‘serious’ condition which could have killed him.

He explained: "I had a few chest pains and just feeling generally lousy, so I was brought in here, and turns out I had a massive amount of fluid all around my heart, which was actually stopping my heart working.

"Had they not got rid of it, which they did in an emergency operation last night, then it’s sort of quite serious, like, hours to live kind of c***."

However, since then, he’s been told to ‘slow down’.

The 61-year-old recently told the Daily Mail that he still gets twinges in his chest, but it’s not stopping him from living his life.

Roberts revealed: “The physical side of things took a lot longer than we thought to get around. I still get twinges and every single time I get a twinge in my chest, I panic. As anyone who has had any kind of problems with their heart would attest to it.”

He added: “I was told I need to slow down and take things easy and all that kind of stuff, and I've gone a completely other way.”

Sharing that he’s now ‘got this project in Wales where I'm renovating a pub, for the community’, it’s safe to say that Roberts has been filling his schedule and keeping busy despite what doctors have said.

But he’s got his reasons.

Roberts continued: “Just doing lots of good. I don't know how much time I've got left, so I just want to do as much as I possibly can to help.

“It's not really about money. It's about just making a difference, because that's what you'll be remembered for.”

At the time, people quickly responded to the news of his medical emergency on X, with one saying: "Gosh, hope you’re ok you’re in great care, there - it is truly amazing the things they can do to treat hearts these days!"

While someone else said Roberts' experience had encouraged them to get checked out: "Oh my hope your doing ok now? Scary stuff isn't it?

"I have a lot of health stuff going on and have been putting off going to docs but you have pushed me into doing it, hope you get better soon buddy."

Roberts' scare came just weeks after he voiced his frustration at Costco because they wouldn't let him bulk buy Calpol when trying to gather supplies for Ukrainian refugees.

In a video posted on social media, he was overcome with emotion, declaring 'we've got to do what we can' and recounting how other shoppers bought more medicine to donate on his behalf when they realised what he was doing.
