Jimmy Fallon ended up on a bit of a bizarre night out after being stopped by some soldiers from the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The TV chat show host was enjoying some solo travelling when he suddenly ended up drinking Buckfast from the bottle while wearing a kilt.

Fallon said on social media that he was visiting Aberdeenshire to take a trip on the Royal Scotsman when he ended up meeting the King’s royal guards by the River Dee.

And when the 5 Scots battalion recognised the American, they invited him over to the officers' mess at the Victoria Barracks for dinner.

The SNL alum even reckons he could be ‘the most Scottish person in Scotland’ thanks to his mad experience. Although he did have to get some help to meet the dress code for the invite.

With black-tie essential, Fallon had to locate a suit or kilt last minute.

“I called the night manager and I talked to him,” the host said.

“I said 'I need to get a kilt tonight' and he goes 'I'll figure something out', so Muir gave me his own kilt."

Thanks to the hotel staff, the host ended up in the full ensemble when he rocked up for ‘the best dinner ever’ with the soldiers.

Saying they were ‘psyched’ by his kilt, Fallon dined with them on a rather fancy venison Scotch egg and even had his fair share of Buckie.

“They gave me something called Buckfast which is a type of wine,” he said.

“Let’s just say, I’m feeling it today.”

Fallon then shouted out Lieutenant Flora Thomas as he shared snaps of them drinking the tonic wine from the bottle. He even left the lucky owner of his own kilt which was fitted by the battalion’s own tailor as well as a Glengarry that he wore in his recap of the night on socials.

“I’m just so grateful, thankful for everyone for being so nice in Scotland,” Fallon said. “I’m not Scottish, I’m not pretending to be Scottish. But I feel like right now, I might be the most Scottish person in Scotland.

“I mean, I drank Buckie.”

The commanding officer of 5 Scots, Major Thomas Blair, told the BBC: "What started as a chance meeting near Balmoral turned into a brilliant evening.

"It's not every day you get to meet a Hollywood A-lister, and we were delighted to welcome him to Scotland - in true Scots style."

And users in the comments found the whole thing hilarious, as one wrote on TikTok: “As a Sottish person, Jimmy Fallon drinking Buckfast in a kilt feels like a fever dream.”

“Scottish hospitality at its best,” a second added as a third said: “A kilted Jimmy Fallon drinking Bucky in the officer’s mess at Balmoral was not what I expected to be watching today.”
