Fans have hailed Joaquin Phoenix as the ‘greatest actor ever’ after seeing test footage from Joker.
Phoenix won a best actor Oscar for his role as Arthur Fleck - also known as the Joker - in the 2019 flick, earning himself rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. And now fans have been blown away after rewatching test footage for the movie:
Joker holds an impressive 8.4 on IMDB and was a huge hit for Warner Bros, grossing over $1 billion at the Box Office - becoming the first R-rated film to do so.
Due to its overwhelming success, Warner Bros announced a sequel - titled Joker: Folie à Deux - was in the works and would land in cinemas in October next year.
And with the second movie’s release less than a year away, fans have been rewatching a clip of Phoenix's knock-out performance in a reel that has been doing the rounds online, showing Fleck’s transition into his chilling alter ego.
Commenting on the clip on YouTube one fan said: “What an amazing actor, seriously. He was perfect for the role.”
A second commented: “In my book, Joaquin Phoenix is the greatest actor that ever lived. Genius!” High praise indeed.
Someone else added: “Joaquin Phoenix has got to be one of the greatest actors ever. Since I first saw him in Gladiator, his acting is always beyond convincing. In the role of Commodus, you can see in his eyes that he carries a grief for being rejected by his father his whole life.
“It’s unbelievable how he manages to become and live his characters to the fullest.”
While another wrote: “What I love about this is that it’s just a wardrobe and make-up test, but Joaquin is so in character it doesn’t feel like a production test at all.
“You are seeing the real joker right then and there before your very eyes.”
“I thought after Heath Ledger that there could never be a better Joker, but Joaquin Phoenix showed me I was wrong,” praised a fifth fan.
And fans now have less than a year to wait to see him back in action, with filming already well and truly underway.
Details about the sequel have been kept a secret for the most part, however, The Wrap reports Joker: Folie à Deux will be largely set in Arkham Asylum, so we could get to see how the relationship between Harley Quinn and the Joker develops.Featured Image Credit: Warner Bros
