John Cena said he 'came prepared' for the movie Trainwreck where he filmed a sex scene with Amy Schumer that led her to joke he was 'actually inside' her while filming.
The wrestler turned actor has made a successful foray into the world of movies and TV with the likes of The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and Trainwreck to name a few, and Cena told the Happy Sad Confused podcast he'd found some 'tremendous advantages by being put around very capable people'.
He mentioned his time on Trainwreck as something he really wanted to get right as a performer.
"Let's take Trainwreck for example, a part that was written simply to be a one scene gag," Cena said.

"Amy's true experience in life where she had way too physical sex with someone and it was like 'this is just too physical, I can't, like I'm out' because it's a gag and super funny.

"We did stunt rehearsals and we used none of it because of the audition and their ability to pivot and be like 'oh man' but I came prepared dude.
"I came prepared and confident and knew like 'okay, I'm giving this small window of probably 90 seconds on screen my everything' and what I'm not going to do is get out of that audition and say 'I could have done more'."
He definitely did a good job considering his acting career has gone from strength since the 2015 movie where he played gym-addict Steven and was in a relationship which Schumer's character at the beginning of the film.

Sometimes couples will do the no-pants dance and one of these moments is depicted in the movie, which gets ruined because Steven is too busy thinking about protein and exercise.
While Schumer joked that during filming of the scene Cena was 'actually inside' her, the wrestler previously said it was 'uncomfortable' having to break the news to his wife he was going to be doing a sex scene in a movie.
He added that he wore a 'spandex sock' in a strategically placed location, and that Schumer and director Judd Apatow made sure he was as comfortable as possible while filming.

It turns out there's 'nothing intimate' about filming a sex scene, and a lot of what they did in the audition didn't happen because they decided to drop a lot of the lines.
Cena told the Club Shay Shay podcast: "Amy is an angel. She made the environment so comfortable, and then when I got the part, eventually they were like, 'Yeah, it's a sex scene. We want you to do elaborate and crazy stunt sex, and all those lines you had?
"We're probably not going to use them, we're just going to do this stunt sex scene.’”
Cena told Howard Stern in 2024 that part of his reason behind getting more into acting was having a realisation in 2015 that his body probably had about another five years of wrestling left in it, which he could 'stretch to ten' if he looked after it but would still be over before he knew it.
