Johnny Vegas was one of the most beloved comedians in Britain but the 54-year-old's life looks very different after leaving comedy behind.

The Lancashire lad is worshipped thanks to his role in classic British comedy Benidorm as well as his long-term partnership with the PG Tips monkey.

That relationship has been far more public facing that his real life one with long-term girlfriend Vikki Jones, but he has now shared a rare insight into their life together, after the two started working together in his Cheshire shop.

Vegas is still a fixture on our television sets due to his show Johnny Vegas' Little Shop Of Antiques, which can be seen on Quest.

Speaking to The Times, he's now spoken more on why he left stand-up behind and shed a little more light on his three-year courtship with Vikki.

He said: "They say never work with your partner, but it's great. She and Bev make fun of me most of the time."

Vegas has previously been married to Kitty Donnelly from 2002 to 2008 and they share a son together, while he was also spent six years wed to Maia Dunphy between 2011 and 2017, and they also share an 11-year-old son together.

The Murder on the Blackpool Express star isn't one for posting his personal life online and it's for that reason that many of his fans perhaps might not have known of Vicki's existence.

He clarified: "I wasn't keeping it under cover, but I don't share much about it on social media."

Vegas also went into more detail about what it was that led him to take a step away from comedy, after performing stand-up for nearly 30 years.

He added: "Stand-up was great, but it was manic. The nerves took their toll. Never say never, but I just see that as a project that needs to rest."

Another factor in Vegas' change in circumstances was a reduction in alcohol intake, something he credits his eldest son Michael for helping him change, and he credits that for turning his life around after he previously used to go on 'four-day benders'.

He previously said: "When you have a child, it's suddenly that feeling of, 'I need to be around now and I want to be around'.

"It's not about you and in a great way that pulls you back from the abyss."

Vegas also learned that he had ADHD just a couple of years ago and although that can make sticking to tasks and concentrating difficult, it can also be helpful when it comes to his art.

He told Loaded: "ADHD can be hindering with decision-making, timekeeping, and certain anxieties.

"It works well with art as you're never short of ideas, it's like catching butterflies - which one will I catch next?"
