Insane amount Khaby Lame makes per video as TikTok star is detained in US

Lame is one of the world's most-followed users on social media

Khaby Lame, the man behind one of the biggest accounts on TikTok, ran into some trouble in the US recently as he was detained.

Donald Trump has, of course, brought in a lot of changes when it comes to immigration and travel rules since returning to the Oval Office, with the deportation of so-called 'illegal aliens' one of his most controversial moves as president.

US Immigration and Customs (ICE) officers also recently conducted raids through districts of Los Angeles in search of undocumented migrants recently which has led to serious riots in LA, while British tourists have also been detained in America.

But it was still something of a surprise when Khaby, known for his 162 million strong following on TikTok, was confirmed to have been detained for overstaying his visa recently.

A spokesperson for ICE confirmed: "US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, 6 June, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations.

"Lame entered the United States 30 April and overstayed the terms of his visa."

ICE, however, suggested that he wasn't detained for long and was 'granted voluntary departure 6 June and has since departed the US.'

Although he hasn't made reference to his time being detained, Khaby has already posted on TikTok since his release, and it's easy to understand why given the incredible amount he makes on there.

According to a post from Fortune from three years ago, the Senegalese-Italian star was making up to an eye-watering $750k per post.

Given he had a measly 149 million followers back then, it's fair to suggest that amount has probably only gone up in the three years since, with his trademark shrug continuing to amuse a fair whack of the world's population.

He probably has the same shrug when people ask him how he makes so much from his simple but funny videos mocking over-complicated life hacks.

Last year, he revealed how he started his famous account, saying: "I started during the pandemic when I lost my job. I started to make happy videos on social media, but was never thinking that they were gonna grow like this, you know?

"I was just making videos to make people happy."

Explaining why people love his videos, the TikToker added: "I think people like my videos for the expression, for the simplicity there, because it's a simple video.

"And then the effect that I don't talk is a universal language. All the people can understand and be part of the comedy without having words. They just have to watch the video and enjoy it."

If I made that much from a single video, I'd probably be pretty happy too.
