Leonardo DiCaprio says he's 'not a rat' as he finally addresses viral Golden Globes ad break moment

The seasoned Hollywood actor has finally addressed the iconic moment

Leonardo DiCaprio has finally spoken out about his viral moment at the 2026 Golden Globes, which left fans confused.

The 51-year-old had been nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his lead role in One Battle After Another at this year's ceremony.

But while he missed out on the award, with Timothée Chalamet emerging victorious for his role in Marty Supreme, the star made headlines for something else.

DiCaprio could be seen speaking to someone during an advertisement break in a rare showing of him joking around and being a bit goofy.

Social media users loved it, with the Hollywood titan hardly ever seen letting his guard down like that during public appearances.

He was seen pointing, grinning and speaking to someone in what was an animated exchange, as fans joked that this was why he's one of the 'greatest facial actor in the game man'.

Others joked that he deserved an award for the conversation alone but while fans thought they figured out what DiCaprio was saying, there was no real way to confirm this unless it came from the horse's mouth.

Many believed that he was speaking about 2025 hit film KPop Demon Hunters, which the actor frustratingly didn't confirm, though he did finally address the conversation.

Speaking to Deadline, DiCaprio explained: "It was directed to a friend.

"At the end of the day, who knows if this other person that I was talking to wants me to even mention their name?"

DiCaprio then concluded on a mysterious line, saying: "So, as the lead character says in A Bronx Tale, I’m not a rat."

He referenced A Bronx Tale, a 1993 title starring Robert De Niro, Chazz Palminteri and Lillo Brancato, which is about a teenager who becomes friends with a mobster as he learns the gangster ways.

The Titanic actor didn't feature in the film though, with fans questioning why he mentioned it or suggested that he was 'rat' at all.

Many thought they found out who the actor was talking to when his One Battle After Another co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor claimed it was her.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, she revealed: "He was talking to me, yes," adding that she'd blacked out due to the excitement she felt at the awards show.

Taylor continued: "I want to say we might've been talking about KPop Demon Hunters."

But just one day later, during an appearance on The Tonight Show, Taylor admitted: "Yesterday I thought I broke the Da Vinci Code, right?"

"Apparently he had two KPop Demon Hunters conversations that night. KPop Demon Hunters was just in his mouth all night. I'm like, who else were you kiki'ing with like that? Because literally that's how we kiki," she joked, saying she had 'a little friendly jealousy' with whoever DiCaprio was joking with in the video.

I guess we'll never know.
