Lucy Davis shares heartfelt message at first public appearance since revealing incurable cancer diagnosis
Lucy Davis issued a heartfelt message to fans at her first public appearance since she shared her incurable cancer diagnosis.
The 53-year-old star, best known for her role as Dawn Tinsley in The Office, announced the news on Instagram earlier this month, telling her followers 'too late' for chemotherapy but added that she’s ‘not scared of whatever comes next’.
She also urged others to 'not ignore anything' when it comes to their health, after revealing that her first sign was a ‘tiny hard spot’ in her breast that she almost chose to ignore.
At the weekend, Davis attended For The Love Of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention at Excel London alongside Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright to talk about the 2004 zombie comedy Shaun Of The Dead.

Speaking at the event, Davis told the gathered crowd of convention-goers that she was ‘grateful’ for the interactions she’d had with fans during the event.
“It’s like this whole second family you never knew you had,” she said.
“Everyone is like a community, friendly, supportive of us, but you guys and each other. So I’m quite hopeful about that, to be honest.
“We need a bit more niceness in the world, and we get it here. So I’m grateful for you guys.”
When asked for advice on how to break into the entertainment industry, Davis told fans ‘you can do anything’.
She shared: “'Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do or be anything that you want to do or be.
“We all grow up just with lies from the world telling us that we all have limitations, and none of us do.
“Our only limitations are the things that we think are limiting us. You can do anything and be anybody, and don’t apologise for it.”
Davis, who played wannabe actor Dianne in Shaun of the Dead, also shared her favourite part of filming the iconic flick.
“In terms of actually filming, I loved when we all pretended to be zombies and walked across the square; it was like being naughty school kids,” she said.
“Our first week of filming, we were all in the car, Nick was driving, and it was almost like the seven stages of grief in those few days. I'd been sat on Dylan’s lap for so long.
“At one point it all got really quiet and suddenly out of nowhere Bill Nighy went ‘let’s all get into our pyjamas and out of our normal clothes’ and just stopped talking.
“We all loved it, but couldn’t express it! It was a fun time, we went a bit mad!”
After the event, director Wright shared a selfie of him alongside Davis and Pegg, writing: “What a delight to hang with my old mucker @simonpegg and the always lovely @reallucydavis yesterday at @ftlofantasyscifi. Thanks to everyone who came out. Loved seeing you all!”
Davis has previously shared a message thanking fans on social media a couple of days after she posted about her diagnosis.
She wrote: “OK, so the last two days have been utterly overwhelming, in that I had zero idea my cancer post would have the attention it did.
“Truly, I am in shock. That said, thank you to everyone for the tremendous amount of kindness and support you have sent me. Good grief it was emotional.”
