Matthew McConaughey has revealed the reason why he had to take an eight year 'hiatus' from his own mother.
Despite the American actor earning a lot of plaudits as a gentleman, particularly for the way he acted with Kate Middleton at Wimbledon earlier this year, it seems as if the 55-year-old had to deal with some issues with his own family.
In fact, the Failure To Launch actor seems to have a Midas touch when it comes to the opposite sex, recently revealing the one trick in the bedroom which has 'kept his marriage alive' over the years, and you might be shocked that it has nothing to do with sex.
However, it turns out that things were not alright, alright, alright between him and his mum, Kay, because he would speak to her over the phone before reading about their conversation in the press just a matter of days later.

Speaking to People, the actor explained: "We had about an eight-year period where I had to have short conversations with her on our Sunday phone calls because she was sharing a lot of that information. I’d tell her something on Sunday between son and mum, and Tuesday I’d read about it in the news or see it in the local paper. She couldn’t help herself."
Kay added: "We were on a hiatus."
McConaughey went on: "We had some boring conversations on Sunday. I wouldn't tell you s***."
Things came to a boiling point when the Interstellar star spotted his childhood bedroom on TV, with Kay taking local reporters through the house in which he grew up.

She recalled: "I took people through the house and said, 'Well, this is where Matthew slept.' Someone called him and said, 'Are you watching what your mama’s doing?' But I was so proud that I was just telling the world."
McConaughey chimed in: "I call her, she answers the phone. I go, 'Mum, what'd you do?' She says, 'What?' I said, 'Don't tell me, 'What?' I could hear the same show I was watching that she's taking the camera through the house in the background. She goes, 'Oh, that. I didn't think you'd find out.'"

Eventually, McConaughey reached a point in his career where press stories weren't bothering him so he was happy to let Kay do whatever she wanted.
He said: "I got stable enough with my own position and fame that I was like, you know what? My mum can say whatever the hell she wants.

"Let's take the lasso off and just go for it, Mum."
"And we go to red carpets and she said, 'Any rules?' I was like 'No rules at all. Tell all the raunchiest things you want.' And she did and it was fine. It's much more fun now."
The 93-year-old features alongside her son and her grandson in The Lost Bus, a new film which was released on Apple TV+ recently.
